I'm looking for good fiction, philosophy, poetry, or interesting non-fic to read this summer so I feel like I actually read something for myself this year! Please help!

What are the most important/awesome book you have on your shelf?

Just off the top of my head, books I've loved (or found important):

Eating Animals (<-- made me a vegetarian)

The Omnivore's Dilemma

Game of Thrones series

The Power of One

Cat's Eye

The Poisonwood Bible

The Thorn Birds

Joy Luck Club

Youngblood Hawke

The Bean Trees

I love it when this question comes up. Anyone else ever read a book by an author, love it, and then proceed to read everything else by them?

The Aeneid

P. Virgilii Maronis Opera: Aeneidos, Liber IV-XII

Edgar Allan Poe: Complete Tales and Poems

Papyrus of Ani

The Naked and the Dead

80629 a Mengele Experiment

If you enjoy war history (nonfiction), then I highly recommend reading "The Naked and the Dead" and "80629 a Mengele Experiment." But, my personal favourites from this list are Edgar Allan Poe and Aeneidos. :)

Some that I enjoyed-

(Autobiography) Something Fierce - Carmen Aguirre

(Autobiography) Prisoner of Tehran - Marina Nemat

Sometimes you have no idea what people around you have been through or are going through.

(Existential Philosophy/Autobiography) Man's Search for Meaning - Viktor Frankl

(Autobiography) Just Kids - Patti Smith

An amazing life that I would never want to live.

(Non-fiction) The Emperor of All Maladies - Siddhartha Mukherjee

Described as the biography of cancer.

(Collection of short stories) One Good Story, that One - Thomas King

(Fiction) The Pornographer's Poem - Michael Turner
