2015 Stats For Interview Invites

Once UofA MD admissions sends it out to applicants (if not released already), if someone out there wouldn't mind posting the average stats for an interview invite, it would be greatly appreciated.

The average GPA for interview invite was 3.87 (max was 4.00). The average personal activities score was 9.00 (max was 17.00). The average MCAT score was 10.81 (max was 14.33).

 

EDIT: This is for the four year AB pool.

Avg CGPA: 3.96 ........... Max:4.00

AVG Personal activities: 9 .......... Max: 17

Lol the highest personal activities score last year was a 16/30? What is the point in even pretending that they are scored out of 30 (now 40).

U of A is still a "GPA school" despite making the personal activities "worth more." That being said, my personal activities score went down two points from last year.

how the hell can they give such a high weight to ECs when the average interviewed EC score is LESS THAN HALF THE TOTAL SCORE (20).

it seems that the EC scores are narrowly distributed

 

That's the value of using a z-scoring system and then converting a z-score to a score out of 30

 

No restriction of range problems that way

Your scores are actually quite similar to mine. Last year, I received an interview and was waitlisted. I never made it off the waitlist.

 

I was really happy when I learned that ECs were going to count for more this year as that's where my highest scores were. When I didn't receive an interview at all this year, it was a bit of a shock since I'd gotten so close last year. 

 

There is speculation that the U of A calculates GPA using a formula that benefits people with higher GPAs. They are a "GPA school" but keep trying. Next year, I will be applying to Calgary as well (I couldn't before as I didn't have enough full time years). Hopefully we have better luck next year.

Weird, could've sworn I saw it list on the admissions website how it changed to 40 this year. I also remember reading conversations on here about the change. Just going crazy I guess, no big deal.

The ECs were worth less last year (I think it was 25%?) and then they bumped it up to 30% this year. 

 

Ironically, GPA and MCAT were worth more last year (30% and 15% respectively). This year, they were apparently worth 27% and 13%.

I don't think they release the minimum scores. They just release averages and maximums.

I feel like all the weighting change has really done is made the interview a little bit more significant, and GPA/MCAT less. EC's weighting change don't even seem to have done anything

because according to inside sources, uofa only cares about hours or high title in a big organization/event or internationally-relevant stuff. that will get you 4/4 on each section. trust me.
