Hey! I'm hoping to get some advice from others who are on the same path as me.

I'm trying to decide what will most increase my chances of getting into a canadian med school: doing a 5th year, a masters, or just improving my mcat/ECs.

- from Ontario (GTA area) + undergrad at Mac

- writing MCAT this summer (it didn't go well last year)

cGPA: 3.75 (after 4 years)

GPA best/last 2 years: 3.88 (3.78 + 3.97)

Toronto wGPA: 3.88

Ottawa wGPA: 3.83

ECs

- 1 year research assistant with 2 publications and surgical shadowing

- part time jobs throughout undergrad

- founder+treasurer of club (1 year)

- coordinator of community organization (4 years)

- coaching (3 years)

- high school activities - band, exec member, smaller volunteering activities

I'm confident I can do well in a 5th year, but will it really benefit me? Do schools look down on doing a 5th year after already graduating? Would doing a masters or just focusing on ECs now help more? I'm so worried my average after 4 years isn't good enough. I appreciate any input!

I would say doing a Masters *MIGHT* actually help more. Your GPA is solid for Queens, Western, Toronto, and Mac, so a fifth year is not helpful for Queens and Western but might help Toronto and Mac, but i dont think it will help TOO significantly. If you do a Masters, it will benefit when applying to Toronto (help significantly) and Queen's, if you are productive.
