Life_Sci_Guy
I'm in 2nd year medicine right now, and starting to panic as I haven't really done any meaningful volunteering since entering medicine. I've joined multiple interest groups and did full-time research this summer, but my volunteering is minimal right now.. theres just no time anymore.. I plan on applying to internal medicine. How important is volunteering for my CaRMS app?
LittleDaisy
Not much...unless you are in leadership positions, it won't change much for IM. I think that med students should do volunteering only if they love it. Volunteering helps you to gain personal maturity, it helps you to know your strengths and weaknesses in those small moments. older
That's just it. For too many med candidates and students volunteering is not about volunteering, it's just a tick off on the application. Gaining personal maturity is not the essence of volunteer work either.
