What do programs do about open spots left after 2nd Iteration? How do they fill those spots?

I can answer you as I matched in the post-CaRMS process last year.

It's like a 3rd round really. If schools want to offer their positions they can offer them post-CaRMS but from what I recall, not a whole lot was offered post-CaRMS except for in Quebec schools. CaRMS stays open and you submit your applications on CaRMS same as the other rounds.

Wow, how come there aren't statistics about 3rd rounds?

Do you mind if I ask you how is it that you can apply to the CaRMS this year?

I was under the impression that if you matched to a program, you had to transfer and not re-apply to change speciality.

You can apply through CaRMS as a resident as a means of transfer. The school I want to go to didn't have any spots for me to transfer to before CaRMS. I'm not changing specialties, I just want to go to another school to be closer to friends and family and to train in English. My current residency program will probably be upset if I match but I applied to do what is best for me.

Oh I see. That's interesting, my university has been saying that that's impossible.

Good luck! I hope you get what you want.
