CARMS and USMLE results ?

Hi,

Quick question I could not find an answer on CARMs website or searching the forums.

Are USMLE scores automatically transmitted to CARMs when applying ?

If so, do you think it has any effect on your application for Canadian residency programs ?

I do not believe they are. For some places if you have a higher score it can be considered  Very program specific.

no they are not. You have to manually enter your USMLE ID number, should you choose.

I am doubtful they will have a major positive impact, but I suppose could have a major negative impact say there's failures.

I did not disclose my very average USMLE step 1 score for CaRMS.

Not in my neck of the woods...

Won't hurt you. But won't really make you either. More "meh" then anything...

It may be program dependent, but I don't think including a Step 1 score would have any significant impact (either positive or negative) on your CaRMS ranking.  Most Canadian PDs probably don't know what a 'good' score is, anyway.  If someone noticed that you had a poor score, they would likely assume that you were writing just to pass (for a potential future fellowship).
