I'm also interested in joining this prep group!

I also feel like we are all just cautiously waiting for each other to get the ball rolling though.. LOL.

Anybody down for meeting this Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning? The sooner we start the better... only 8 weeks to go.

I'm happy to meet anywhere between SFU and UBC. Let me know!

TIME STAMP: 11:17 AM PST
Interview Invite or Regrets: Invite
Early or Regular Deadline: Regular
AGPA (if applicable):  86 or 87 (Had trouble accessing my old applications, GPA hasn't changed)
MCAT: 515
ECs: Played competitive hockey and baseball for 15+ years, various other sports/coaching, couple hundred hours of hospital volunteering, shadowed/volunteered in hospitals abroad, worked/volunteered at a homeless shelter, worked with at-risk children for the city, played guitar for 15 years.
Current Degree: BSc Physiology, graduated from SFU in 2015, have been working/volunteering/travelling since
Geography: IP
NAQ: Last cycle:Mid 20s
AQ: Last cycle: Mid 20s

TFR: Last cycle: around 48 or 49... Really wish I could pull up my last application for reference!

This is my 4th application cycle, and 3rd after graduating. My score had increased each year and I was really thinking I'd get an interview last year after doing all the traditional pre-med tasks to boost my NAQ score. Last year, even with a bunch of overseas volunteering added my score stagnated. This year I applied last-minute, kind of giving up on UBC and other Canadian schools (last year I applied all across Canada, this year just here)  and removed some activities in favour of activities I really enjoyed. (e.g. a short amount of time doing research for long-term personal tasks). I'm really excited and honoured to have this chance! Still can't believe it. I've lurked this site for a couple years and finally got the courage to post... Reading everyone else's extroardinary ECs and GPAs was insane to me, still shocked I'm able to say I got an interview. Funny enough, I'll be starting medical school in Australia in January, but will fly back for a weekend for the interviews. I'd be super down to meet some of y'all and get some MMI practice in before I head down under!

Long time lurker. I applied last year received a 39.6 TFR. Was fresh off my degree. Spent the year volunteering added some stuff that I should have put on the first app. This brings me to where I am today.
Status: Regrets, no interview
AGPA: 88.41
AQ: 28.05
NAQ: 23.59
TFR: 51.64

I missed the cutoff for IP by 0.03. I am devastated I simply cannot believe this is happening. I am shocked my score jumped so much but I am still horrified that I missed by such a small margin. For those in a situation similar to me, should I be concerned next cycle (ie I have some volunteer stuff that was past this cutoff that will be on the next one) or should I be hopeful?

Ugh I can truly understand how frustrating that is. I literally missed the cutoff last year by less than .5
There is a lot of variation in the NAQ score. What I worked on from last year is: adding ALL the activities (even those that I thought were not that significant), wording the descriptions way better than last year (using descriptors, numbers, exact outcomes without exaggerations). Please don't lose hopes, I'm sure it'll work out at the end. Also, consider applying broad - all of Canada, and even USA if you wanna consider that. GOOD LUCK! <3 This year will only make you stronger!

Hey do we know how many OOP applicants they're accepting this year? Looks like it has varied a bit over the last few years.

It varies only if some turn down the acceptance and the next in line off waitlist is an IP.

They take up to a maximum of 10% of the class, so about 29. Just varies because many that get accepted off the bat as OOP decline for other schools, then the "new" spots get filled by waitlist. The waitlist is all mixed IP/OOP, so the "next in line" for that former "OOP seat" could be an IP student.

That makes sense thanks!

Even the initial offers do not guaranty that 29 OOP offers will be sent :) 29 is simply the absolute maximum number they will accept. Post-interview, every single applicant is ranked in order from 1 to ~650 (how ever many interviewed) and then invitations are sent and site locations assigned in order of rank. If 29 OOP applicants aren't part of the top 288 ranked applicants post-interview, the administration will extend fewer than 29 offers.

However, typically about 45 to 50 OOP offers are sent as they cycle through the applicants who receive an offer but decline it.

Has anybody else received an interview invite that is site specific? Such as for the rural program? Also, does anybody know how many people you are usually competing with when you are in a rural pool of people only (like only competing with those that want to go to NMP)
