Interview Invites & Regrets 2017/2018

Keep working, your NAQ is already pretty good, but youll need to continue and take time to improve it further over the years. You can get in with your "low" GPA, but youll need to get that NAQ up to 30+.  Look and see if taking more courses would make an appreciable difference.

Thanks, friend. I definitely, definitely appreciate the comment + feedback. I'm currently in my fourth year, and it's just my first year that's bringing my GPA down so I'm hoping the adjustment next year will help in pulling my score up.

As for NAQ, I'm still a little lost as to how evaluations are even being made, but what can you do right?

Thought this might be helpful for future applicants. I thought I had strong EC's but this might be telling me otherwise. Maybe it's longevity I'm missing, but I was in some positions for 3-4 years. Maybe my descriptions weren't good... who knows.

Remember that your NAQ score is in context of a hypercompetitive applicant pool of medical students, and can vary depending on how you express your achievements and who reviews them.

Dont think you're ECs are "bad" or anything like that, its just a subjective process. But at least you know where you can "improve".

Yeah that's what I've heard - would be more helpful to know how I did in each individual category of the NAQs though haha. Still the June 1st cutoff date for EC's definitely excluded some of my activities, but I know for sure that I could've put a lot more work into writing them out.

With only 3 years under your belt, you have plenty of time to improve. Do well in your 4th year, and youll see it rise double so, with lowest year dropped. And then consider a 5th year too if you can keep the upward projection, this gives you two more years to keep boosting your NAQ. Dont forget about job experiences too, doesnt just have to be clubs or volunteering.

GPA: 88.14
MCAT: 129/125/128/130
ECs: 5 years of summer camps, respite worker (1 month only), exec of club (2 years), youth leader (1 year), founded club (in HS), elderly home volunteer (in HS), peer tutor (in HS), + 1 other long term job, and some other small stuff like sports/activites/etc. No clinical or research.

Don't know if its worse to be this close and get rejected, or be not even close to getting an interview... The EC deadline hurt my application quite a bit, so hopefully another year of ECs will get my NAQ where it needs to be. Next year ill be able to add prez of club, another year of being a respite worker, another year of summer camps, hopefully some clinical experience, and some other little stuff.

Same. Went from ~32.5 last year to ~23.5 this year, despite adding activities and add another year of experience to the old ones.

Tough pill to swallow.

Holy smokes, your NAQ is outta this world. I know it was probably not an email you would have wanted, but I think that high of a score is definitely an impressive feat. xx
