Questionssss
Did anyone get in with a research based MSc and no publications? I just finished my BSc and I'm not sure if I should start the research-based MSc that I have been accepted into or defer my MSc and take a year off to apply again to medical school. The problem is that I won't have any publications or conference presentations after just a year of being in an MSc program (which I'll attempt to finish in 2 years), so in a pool of all grad students including PhD students, I think I may appear less competitive. I know that course-based MSc students will be assessed as undergrads, but not sure about first year MSc students with little t ono research productivity. I would appreciate any insight into whether an MSc would weaken my application.
yup
I don't think you're able to apply halfway through your MSc. From my understanding, UofT requires that you complete any started MSc prior to beginning medical school.
Questionssss
You're right, you have to finish your grad program before *beginning* medical school (so your supervisor must confirm that you'll finish by June). So you can apply halfway as long as you finish on time (which will hopefully be my case).
robclem21
I don't think it would "hurt" your application. At the very least you will be assessed as an undergrad application.
jesustakethewheel
I’d also like to add that you should only do a masters if you’re interested in research. Don’t do it purely for the sake of applying to med school.
