  1. has anyone here taken BIOL 3010 (advanced biochem)? If so, does it rehearse the stuff learnt in biochem level 1? I'm wondering if I should take it for mcat review.
  2. is anyone studying for the MCAT at York during the months of november and december? If so, we can study together!
  3. Hi everyone. So I am trying to understand the CARMS process, and I recognize that research it is a very important aspect that is looked at, particularly more for the more competitive fields. Now I was wondering how they assess your research - Do they look favorably more at someone who has more publications (i.e Case Reports and Systematic Reviews which are easier to publish) vs, someone who may have done 1-2 projects (e.g. someone who has been working in a lab for months to get results, and much more difficult to publish this research, e.g. like clinical trials, etc)? I know this one person who publishes many many Systematic Reviews, but is like the 10th author on the publication. Would they rather have someone who is 1st author and there are few authors on that paper (meaning he or she must have contributed a lot) or someone who is a review that has like 10 people on it - but that person has many publications like this. Basically, I'm asking if it comes down to quality or just shear quantity.
  4. Can someone please explain to me what the prime interest rate refers to? So for e.g. I read the U of T Prime interest rate is 2.5%, so does that mean for example if I end medica school with $100,000 in debt from my LOC, every year I must pay that + 2.5% of 100,000? Also what is prime minus?
  5. Result: Accepted Timestamp: 7:45 am wGPA: 3.95 + MCAT: Above cut offs ECs: Around 40 items total - Research (NSERC, other paid research, Poster Presentation, Oral conferences, Abstracts), ECs + Volunteering (sports, teaching, community work) + Bunch of awards Essays: Spend a lot of time on these. I swear it's my Essays that made them want to see me, I got them reviewed many many times, had many revisions. Interview: To be honest I think the best advice I can give about this is that SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY and don't be a robot. They want to see how you think about the answer, not so much about how you articulate your answer. So I remember, in the last station I thought I bombed so bad, but I guess not. One station I ended in 7 minutes, and had 5 minutes to spare - I should have said more, but I was speaking too fast. Trust me - show your personality, smile when you walk in, laugh, joke around if you think there is an opportunity. Interviewers were SUPER SUPER NICE. I was thining I wasn't going to get in because of the interview, and believe me, if I thought I did well I would say it, but I think I did average in interview. Year: Finished my undergrad this year Geography: IPs
  6. do you guys have any professor recommendations for doing an independent study with? I've heard some are terrible whereas others are great
  7. Haha sounds like a pain in the butt. How's the workload in that class? Also, there are a load of pre-reqs for that course! Is there any way to take it without taking them?
  8. Nice! His course has great reviews and I will definitely consider it. In terms of difficulty, how would it be compared to Phys 2?
  9. haha thanks for the feedback! I'm taking 2 3rd year courses so I will definitely consider these. I had Valoo this year as a matter of fact; very interesting professor lol.
  10. Thanks for the feedback! Does she test a lot from the textbook?
  11. any good/easy 4th year courses at York U? I'm a psych major so preferably anything psych or kinesiology related would be of interest to me. Specifically, anything where an A+ is doable.
