  1. I took a brief look for you all; last year, we got 3 emails prior to the decision date (mostly reminders). Make the best you can of the wait!

  2. Is it more likely that invites for March 28/29 will come out next week and the week after rather than this week?

  3. Yup lots of people left their snowshoes next to their bags/luggage while interviewing.

  4. Hey everyone, I just thought of sharing this for those who are interested in prepping for current interviews because I found it very helpful. This is an educational group that conducting practice mock interview sessions for free and has a ton of free questions and resources available for everyone. https://www.facebook.com/groups/263776044319283/?ref=bookmarks

  5. agreed, no need for personal attacks. Currently no, but the their scope keeps expanding. So to think that it won’t eventually is incorrect IMO (pay, and affect care). UK nurses will now be providing surgery (including hernias). Sure it sounds small, but one forgets that over time, scope increases instead of looking at one single point in time. So it’s fair to say that eventually, midlevels will continue to do higher level things and eventually it may push physicians to either adapt and think of new things to do, or If that doesn’t happen at a fast enough pace, physicians will be pushed out for actually less training and affect care potentially. I know they definitely fill a gap, and it definitely helps streamline faster care for patients in a supervised setting, but solo practice is a different matter entirely when their entire training model is to be supervised. Also there are now online NP degrees in the states. More research to be done in the near future one would hope to see what occurs. There is a reason we are trained for such long periods of time after all.

  7. What are you doing for self-care? Any activities that might count as ECs? They don't have to be within the medical school (many of those clubs and positions often have a significant social component and function).

Overall, I really enjoyed the experience - shout out to the UBC Med students and staff who helped create an organized and welcoming environment. It was fun getting a chance to chat and meet some of the diverse interviewees. Also, anecdotally, speaking to a few people that have interviewed elsewhere, they said that UBC was one of the more pleasant MMI circuits they've done. (Also, how gorgeous is that life sciences center? Yeesh!) I spent some time meditating/exercising that morning, and walked into it feeling oddly calm, which was nice (I'm hoping I was able to relay at least a little of that to the other folks I chatted with before we started). As far as how the MMI went; it was pretty much as expected. I'm the type of person that enjoys chatting and engaging with new people, so if anything, the MMI felt like an exercise in that. I found it helpful to walk into each new station with an attitude of, "Cool, that was fun, let's do this" - It takes the pressure off, if you take it a little less seriously, IMO. By the end, I think we were all exhausted - but it's my understanding that it's to be expected, so I'm not too concerned about that dragging down my performance. Overall, felt good about it! I'm on the lower end of the MCAT and GPA stream, so we'll see what happens, but I wish everyone luck, regardless

  12. After entering the first one, it will ask if you want to add another entry. You can submit up to 3 for each. Hope this helps!

  13. The program is pretty challenging but also very rewarding! Once you get in everyone is part of the "pharmily", our class literally has a google drive with notes and study material for every single class and this is shared with everyone. It's definitely a very supportive environment and not cut throat like my old science degree was haha! All our peers in upper years also share their notes with us as well. I wouldn't say the environment is less competitive because our class averages are high (usually in the low to high 80s range) and there are still some classmates who are trying to get into med or dent but we do everything we can to help each other out.

    Chances of acceptance

Forgot to reply to this a while ago. Yeah I definitely agree that having good stats feels more "secure" than being confident in one's ECs, etc. I suppose the fact that MUN is known for accepting people with low MCATs etc really just shows that they're open to looking at the "whole" candidate, and they don't just subscribe to the mindset of good MCAT = good student. I just want it to be March!

  15. Status: Invite off waitlist following regrets Time Stamp: 10/02/2020 - phone call @ 10:40 AM EST Location: IP Stream: English MCAT: 519 (128/129/130/132) cGPA/2yr GPA: 2-yr GPA ~3.9 Current year: Completed masters and second undergrad ECs: Lots of things over the years, y'all already know what you need to do. I think getting a publication for this cycle with another in the works and working in a clinical role at a high profile institution right now probably helped. Needless to say I'm very excited! I didn't expect to be called off the waitlist at all and didn't even know there was one. This is my first time posting to a thread like this but wanted to so that others can see that there is an interview waitlist and people are being called off of it.

    Chances of acceptance

Well, that's a bit of a flawed assumption, don't you think? There are certainly people who are accepted with "poor" academic scores, however, we are not privy to any of the disadvantaging factors they may have experienced, their EC's, and on the list goes. Speaking as someone in the opposite situation as you, I'd rather be in your position than my own. The scores are tangible - they're easier to assess and rank relative to the competition. I've no idea how they assess everything else; it certainly seems like a daunting task. In the mean time, we'll both have to try our best to not fixate on the wait too much
