  1. Business Idea: a spa/resort for M4s 2 weeks leading up to match, but everyone is kept under moderate sedation the whole time and entertained with movies, mud baths, 24 h access to a petting zoo of puppies and other animals. Anyone got leftover LOC? DM to invest.

  2. I'm not sure if you are speaking from experience, but it doesnt sound like you are. I'm not sure if you are suggesting that overhead will be 75K /yr split between 3 docs i.e. $25K/yr overhead per doc. That is not realistic. Even with a "shoe-string" budget office, most GPs will be looking at minimum 20% overhead i.e. if you bill 250K, 50K/yr in overhead. etc. And you have to consider that you will be doing a LOT more work. You will need to write your own referrals, do your own billing, manage turnover, manage rent negotiations when your lease ends, manage EMR maintenance, etc etc.

  8. Does anyone have any advice for the MMIs? I am doing mine this week for McGill as a CEGEP applicant and am terrified. If you could do it again, what would you change. I am totally aware of the NDA so no details, but I just want to garner a sense of calm before the storm. (DMs are open)

  12. Is anyone (everyone?) else feeling very antsy waiting until May? I feel like I fall asleep thinking about the results.... wake up thinking about the results.... go to the gym & think about the results... dream that I missed my MMI & imagined the whole thing... lol.

  28. It's proliferation is astounding and I can't believe how big an emphasis some other programs put on it. At Saskatchewan it's worth 40 percent of the admission score for nursing and physiotherapy. For MD admissions at Manitoba it's worth 30 percent of the pre-interview score and 10 percent of the post interview score. To give you some perspective, GPA is only worth 20 percent pre-MMI and 15 percent post-MMI for Manitoba MD admissions. The thing that I find most appalling is that the dean of MD admissions at the UofS basically admitted that there's not much evidence that it's actually effec

  30. Yes, this year we received beautiful Cardiology IV Littmann stethoscopes (sponsored by Doctors NS). Ours were green. FYI you also get a reflex hammer and some other medical instruments.

    Palliative Care Salary?

I'm a FFS palliative care physician in Ontario. The way billing works here, if you have a fair roster of patients (typically only possible by doing at least some community work) then those numbers are very easily attainable. Full time inpatient work is probably in the 250 range in pure billings, as noted above though if you can get call funding and cover weekends then you can certainly add on a bit (closer to 3-4k/weekend in my experience). This is without overhead though, so still coming out ahead compared to a typical family clinic. I try to be open with students and residents wh

I'm sure you will make it one day.

  41. I mean I think it's safe to assume she will break even and make more money before she retires if she goes the MD route, even if she has to do some part time extra undergrad, and even if you consider nursing pension etc., so I don't think she will end up at a financial disadvantage, but I agree with the above posters that compared to going the NP route that you're probably overestimating the benefit in terms of income. I'm also not sure why you think the NP burn out would be any different than MD burn out? I'm a pediatrician and NPs are very common in our NICUs, and there are definitely NP

    Admission DMD ULaval 2021

  44. As far as money, sometime it is not the theoretical money you gain or loser but rather the sense of feeling appreciated. She might feel more appreciated if she earns 300K instead of 80K or 100K. It has nothing to do with which option is "economically superior" in the long run.

  45. Break down the GPA per year of study. And whether or not she took a full course load in each of those years from sept to April. Then we can better evaluate her GPA situation/competitiveness. I'd also mention that most schools are not in Toronto or GTA. You'd both (or just her depending on what you guys prefer) have to be willing to move to other cities.

  47. Yes got mine! A while back actually. Along with my Casper score. I did REALLY well on Casper I was shocked haha. I thought I bombed it. I guess the training we get in med school helps us for things like Casper! my references were all wonderful. There were some I should’ve used I thought weren’t going to be as strong but were really strong but generally they were all truly wonderful and I could’ve used any of them. 2/3 that I used were exactly what I was expecting and very glowing. The third was great still very nice but had others that were even better. 7 total. Overall really happy with

  49. It’s tough but I think it might be more productive just to focus on yourself and your own grades. There’s not really a point in worrying about others and their grades. It’s not something you can control and you’re just going to make yourself and others more anxious and depressed about prospects. I was accepted into ubc med with a far from fantastic GPA. I never even looked up what the average GPA of accepted applicants was. Instead, I put my energy into making my application speak truly about who I am and why I deserve a spot. I know it’s tough and you feel like there are injustices with grade
