» https://admission.umontreal.ca/admission/apres-la-demande/recevoir-une-reponse/

  12. It's an available as a specialization for FM within the military. I suspect that is the only pathway in Canada. The military will sponsor FM residency, but you would have to decide whether working in the military is right for you (including a ROS). Perhaps others may be able to provide more details.

  17. M1: Christmas break is roughly 2 weeks. It depends on where exams fall during exam week, you may get 2-3 extra days if they are early in the week. Summer break is ~2 months, from mid-June to mid-August M2: I don't have the exact numbers but looks like christmas is again ~2 weeks, and summer is shorter than M1 (~5 weeks) https://www.mcgill.ca/ugme/files/ugme/mdcm_schema_2020-02-07_en.pdf

  18. Might as well email, call, etc. Chances are slim but who knows, nothing much left to lose. Also I am bit surprised the leftover pathology spots weren't offered post-match. She could also give those programs a call if she's absolutely desperate to get in somewhere.

I hated Axium. I went to Detroit Mercy and they had it there too. Too clunky, out-dated and cluttered.

  21. Given that the process is about to officially end, I think that there is very little risk in emailing the program administrators directly with a polite interest/follow-up message.

  22. Yes exactly, because there is a cap on the OOP seats, UBC would have “skipped” some OOP applicants who are ranked highly but could not be offered seats in the first round of offers. Once OOP people declined their VFMP seats, this would open that seat up to whoever is most highly ranked, which could be a waitlisted OOP applicant rather than an applicant who has been accepted to their second or third choice sites. There are also people who may not have ranked all the sites (indicating that they would not attend one of the sites even if it was offered to them), so it’s also possible that

  25. This may sound harsh but based on the comments you have been posting, the most helpful thing you can do this summer is reflect on your attitude and try to be more open to feedback. Your attitude and blatant disregard for other people’s suggestion because it does not line up with what you wanted to hear or because you somehow feel like you know better than people who have gone through the process before is concerning and will invariably cause you trouble during your training. This is exactly what every residency program wants to avoid.

  27. People can do what they want although I think it can be really cringey. Especially the ones that just show off how type A they are (Waking up at 5 am, workouts, going to class, what they eat, watching them study... Like who cares, lol). I guess there's a market for it.

  28. OFFRE D'ADMISSION CONDITIONNELLE CATÉGORIE COLLÉGIENNE RECEIVEDDDD AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH . J'ai tellement rêvé longtemps de cette lettre d'admission dans MON NUMBER 1 CHOICE MED ULAVAL and its finally here im on cloud 9. Je voudrais juste dire aux futurs appliquants de NE JAMAIS perdre espoir si DAY 1 vous êtes en liste d'attente, c'est déjà un accomplissement énorme. Patientez et YOUR TIME WILL COME.

  29. Old Calgary Alum here: - calgary had a solid focus on clinical skills and hands on learning opportunies. I don’t know much about sask but wouldn’t expect too many differences between the two in this area - student life - You can fit a lot of hikes, camping, ski trips even in 3 years in med. I found myself studying mostly for big exams, but weekends especially in preclerkship were free to explore at least a good portion of the time. Clerkship is a different beast, however and your time is much more limited. My quality of life during pre-clerkship was very good (and certainly better th

  31. Who said I'm male lol For what it's worth OP I agree with the other commenters. I was around your gpa this past cycle, and I watched people with much less valuable ECs (altho I'm biased in this regard) than you or I (ex. 10 hobbies listed) get an invite while I did not; these people had 90+ gpa. Our gpa + ECs might have been good enough to get in 10 years ago but not anymore. Improve GPA since it's objective

  32. Seeing as I only have 3 weeks left of med school (!), I thought I’d go ahead and answer this. I don’t feel that med school has made me salty or cynical at all. In fact, I think it’s made me abundantly more grateful for my health and my family, and progressively more grateful for being in medicine and having the privilege of doing what we do. I’ve honestly found med school to be a fun and exciting journey, meeting so many wonderful people and patients. I’m feeling sad now that it’s coming to an end. I do feel that it’s opened my eyes so much more to the suffering that people go through and

  33. Every time somebody says that, I like to point to the example of Switzerland which has residencies of comparable length to ours in most specialties while abiding by EU work hour restrictions (48h/week max with no more than 13h of continuous work), and the RCPSC recognizes their training as equivalent for the purposes of exam eligibility. The reason we have long hours during residency isn't because it's a trade-off between hours worked vs competency but because resident labour is significantly cheaper to the government/hospital than that of attending physicians.

  34. Why aren't masters programs not great to improving applications? I assumed that doing a masters can help with applicants gaining maturity and (perhaps) better references?
