Hello! For one of my academic references I asked a prof who I never spoke too in person. Our class was pretty big and I never went to office hours either. They definitely had no idea who I was, but since I did really well in their class I figured it would be worth a shot asking (I also recall this prof being extremely kind and friendly). Thankfully they said yes! My advice to you is to think of a prof who you got a good grade with, and shoot them an email reminding them of who you are and what class you took with them and when. Send them anything notable you did in their class (maybe attach a paper or a project you did really well on). Also attach your transcript and resume if you can. The worst they can say is no, but many of my peers reminded me that it is part of a professor's job to write references, so if they have the time I'm sure they will say yes!

Bambi reacted to bread in Is It Possible To Finish Med School Without Becoming Too Salty Or Cynical?
Seeing as I only have 3 weeks left of med school (!), I thought I’d go ahead and answer this. I don’t feel that med school has made me salty or cynical at all. In fact, I think it’s made me abundantly more grateful for my health and my family, and progressively more grateful for being in medicine and having the privilege of doing what we do. I’ve honestly found med school to be a fun and exciting journey, meeting so many wonderful people and patients. I’m feeling sad now that it’s coming to an end.
I do feel that it’s opened my eyes so much more to the suffering that people go through and the horrible life circumstances that some people have, as well as many of the inefficiencies within our healthcare system, and there have been times and cases when I’ve felt down about that, and times of exhaustion and stress.

I think I went in expecting it to be hard and knowing that the process can make you cynical and less empathetic, and because of that, I was better prepared for the challenging parts and protected my self-care measures. I know residency will be a new challenge, but I’m excited for it and so grateful to be here.

You will likely do better at Queen's from what you say, and I would learn to be adaptable to this new environment which, at present and from a distance, you seem not to look forward to. Adaptability is an essential quality for advancement and let this new experience be a test and challenge for you. Good luck!
