  1. Scheid. He is my favourite prof at York after Tamara Kelly. I've taken 3 classes with Scheid and they were all awesome. Bayfield is better than Hudak.
  2. All the non-lab 3000/4000 level bio courses are actually very easy, except for Advanced Biochem. You'll get an A+ in Advanced Biochem, but it is a lot of work and memorizing. The rest of the 3000/4000 level courses I took felt like bird courses. In total I took: Adv Biochem, Molec 1/2, Immunobio, Macromolecules, Cancer Bio, Reproduction, Cellular Regulation, Human Molecular Genetics, Virology. Got an A in Macromolecules (Something came up before the final), and an A+ in the rest. I'd avoid Macromolecules because its boring as hell.
  3. They voted for a strike mandate. They will vote to go on strike this week (wed-friday). Stay safe, yorkies
  4. It passed as usual. Since striking during reading week = null outcome, reading week is essentially a free week of negotiating. Hopefully we get a two week reading week and finish on time.
  5. All of my professors lol I hope its short enough for me to get out of this place by May. York is pretty good, but i'm sick of stuff like this.
  6. Update for Yorkies - we will likely have a strike within starting just after or during reading week.
  7. One of the grad projects proposed to me is at the intersection of immunology, comp bio and gene editing - so cool.
  8. I find the upper year bio courses to be so incredibly interesting. Immunology is wild cool.
  9. Good. Most of the 3/4th year courses feel a lot easier than the second year courses. I'm not sure why. How about you?
  10. If AAMCAS is the same scale as mcgill, then it should be 4.0 for both.
  11. Quick rundown of some of the 3/4th year bio courses: Molec 1 - A lot of memorizing, not a lot of thinking. Every tiny detail mentioned on a slide is testable and will be tested. Small details from the first lecture will be tested in the final. Overall, it is a straight forward A+ if you have time to memorize. Molec 2 - I thought it was a "bird" course because it was almost entirely application based when I took it. A lot of fun, but you have to know the experiments and techniques very well. Take it with Scheid if possible. Adv. Biochem - More memorizing than Molec 1 and 2 combined. If you can memorize slide after slide of reaction mechanisms and structures, you'll get an A+. Macromolecules - Avoid simply because Audette is awful. The course is easy enough, I guess. The final is difficult because the midterms were application based and the final was all regurgitating little details. Immunology - Best course I've taken ever. So interesting and not a lot of work. Have to develop a very strong understanding of the material, but Dr. Da Sylva is very good at lecturing. Course was structured differently in the past; it is no longer heavy on the readings. Cancer Bio - Another super interesting course. The prof is a really nice guy, but he says things that are wrong sometimes. He records all the lectures for you. Midterms were 50% MC and 50% short answer. I found the short answer to be consistently easy and the MC varied with the midterms. No final exam - 3 midterms + 25% group work. Group work is marked easy, but is time consuming. A+ will be hard, but doable Reproduction - Dr Kelly isn't teaching it for the next 3 years, so i wont say anything about it other than, if Dr Kelly is teaching it, take it.
  12. Anyway, they dont need to bellcurve a single assessment if the overall distribution of grades in the course is okay. Orgo 2 is easier.
  13. The department will never let anyone skip taking 2070. Ever.
  14. Anyone going to be at Academic Orientation tomorrow? I have to (help) give a tour
  15. Don't have anything on Fournier personally. I've heard he's good for the upper year chem classes. As an easy elective, consider the intro economics courses, human phys I, psych 1010 (if you need 6.00 credits).
  16. I think biol 1000 has a common exam to all sections. It was easy. Honestly the entire course is memorizing the learning objectives that the professor gives you.
  17. Hempstead is boring, but easy. Ifa is a nice guy, not sure how he is as a professor.
  18. I haven't taken 3030, but friends have said its an easy A+
  19. You won't learn any chemistry with Hempstead, but the class will be easy enough. Ifa is a nice guy.
  20. The application year GPA will not be considered unless you get conditional acceptance. I believe UWO and Ottawa will give conditional acceptance.
  21. I just switched to Micro. I kept looking at the break from 9:30am to 7:30pm and thinking it would ruin my entire week.
  22. I can't decide if I should take microbio or immuno. Benefits of Immuno: no lab, more free time Cons: lecture is at 7pm, i'll have a 9 hour break on those days and can't go home during that time. Benefits of Micro: no 9 hour break, seems interesting cons: seems like a lot of work, 3 hours+ of labs each week.
