  1. I get the sense that the invites so far, especially last week, were candidates that exceeded the set GPA and MCAT standard for this year, and that invites today and tomorrow are the candidates who might have been on or below this standard, but whose file is being reviewed to select more candidates for interview. I'm probably wrong, but that's my thought track.
  2. Thanks everyone for your responses, especially The Mist. Actually, after long thought, I decided to go with your suggestion, since I think they can glean the relevant info about my employment through my application, while my volunteer supervisor can comment more thoroughly on the stuff that perhaps counts more ie. compassion esp with poverty. Thanks a lot, wish me luck! Take care and have a relaxing weekend too!
  3. Hi everyone I'm immensely unsure who to select as my second reference and I know this section carries considerable weight for interviews and offers. My first referee is my supervisor in a health care setting, where she's known me for two years and seen me progress from a Hospital Patient Attendant to a licensed and practicing PSW, and i feel confident she could write great things about my professional and personal qualities. For the final reference, I've got two referees to choose between, both with strengths and weaknesses in the sense of how they know me and how current the refe
  4. I think the Nurse Practitioner is a good alternative. Like others have mentioned, the PA program isn't well established in NB yet. A career as an NP is similar in several ways to MD, you are independent and work in collaboration with doctors, not under them as PA'S do. As well you see patients, perform examinations and order tests and can write most prescriptions. The only con I can think of is it takes time, first you need a Nursing degree leading to RN plus 2 years experience, followed by a master's in nursing.
  5. Thank you as well for your input. After 2 unsuccessful application cycles (and a year of serious consideration) I'm starting the Accelerated Nursing program in September. From what I've heard about this program, it is, for the most part, exactly as you described. One thing to add. If anyone is unsuccessful, or decides to leave the "rat race" that is med school applications, going into the field of nursing doesn't have to end with a career as an RN, though if that is your passion go for it . A career as a Nurse practitioner, as far as I can tell, is very rewarding from both the abilities an
  6. This is very much true, this trend of specialized programs pumping out exceptionally high GPA applicants needs to be examined and/or taken into account by the AFMC.
  7. Does anyone know if the English pre-req of 6 CH has to be completed before applying or if it actually is prior to admission as posted on the website? I'll call next week to confirm, I just figured I'd ask you awesome folk beforehand. Have a relaxing easter weekend!

  9. Hello everyone Has anyone used The Princeton Review's CARS accelerator workshop? Both positive or negative feedback relating to the course is welcome and appreciated!
  10. Yup its a BN technically. Thanks for the input. Best of luck on your applications frank!
  11. Sorry I forgot to explain that while I would have the ASNP as a backup,I would keep applying to Dal Med while studying. For anyone wanting background info before considering my post. Suggestions how to improve in EC's are welcome as well. GPA: 3.7 (best 2 years) MCAT 125/123/125/126 CP/CARS/BIO/PSYCH EC's: Average (IMO). 2 years of undergrad research which led to a publication, 2 years volunteering for various projects with Habitat for Humanity, UNB redshirts for several years, lots of work at the hospital as a patient attendant, personal support worker for a senior lady in her ho
  12. Howdy all To everyone getting ready for interview day, I wish you all best of luck you survived university and you wrote the beast that is the MCAT so you all are great candidates for Medicine! Now onto my question. I was scored ineligible this cycle due to MCAT (missed CARS by 1 point - planning to study and re-write). In the meantime I've worked on a backup plan (just in case), specifically the Advanced standing NP in Moncton (then hopefully on to NP). For those not aware, the ASNP is an accelerated nursing program for those who have completed min 60CH which runs for 2 yea
  13. I found this video to be helpful with memorizing properties and structures of the amino acids, It might seem basic but I found it extremely useful when i was faced with a seemingly complicated Biochem question. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m130s94pMjE
  14. On Dal's website they state no section can be less than 124, and that only a single score of 124 in any one section is permitted for IP applicants. Also total score needs to add up to 499. I feel you on the CARS section unlucky. I thought CARS was my best too but apparently not (125/125/123/126 Chem-phys/CARS/Bio/Psych). Adds up to Dal's 499 req but the 123 renders me ineligible (another IP applicant don't have to worry about )
  15. Thanks so much everyone for your thoughts and advice. It's very very much appreciated. I've been majorly down past week and reading the above posts helped rally that fighting pre-med spirit we all have (or need re-kindled like me ). I'm definitely in the anxious category noodle so thanks for your wise words!, I definitely wasn't thinking life will go on just before CARS (probably didn't help there were 2 girls crying in the corner of the break room during break just before CARS ) Thanks a lot for the offer im46dr but I live in Fredericton...unless you're heading to the east coast anyt
  16. So I recently wrote the new MCAT and did fairly well except for the 123 in the CARS section, despite having felt really good about it :/ After careful thought, I've decided to take another swing at it and was looking for any advice on what prep material to use (I used EK prep materials but am having second thoughts if EK is a good source for CARS section). Any advice on prep materials or how to study are welcomed and much appreciated.
  17. Nope no confirmation email thus far. I ran it by someone else and she agreed it looks like everything submitted properly. Good luck!
  18. After finishing all the steps (1, 2a,2b,2c) it just shows you that all are completed and there's no overall submit button somewhere right? (forgive my paranoia )
  19. That's correct with the login info you used when you applied in step one.
  20. Where does it state that transcripts have been received, the transcript assessment page? Update: Ignore this post.
  21. Yeah, If I go through with the Korea plan, then I'd delay my applications and such til the following year. Get the teaching and volunteer work over there done and then come back. As for the war part of it, I've talked to the south korean education board, and my Korean friends and they say if I teach in Busan or below I should be quite safe. Yea that hacking thing really did happen. The US already sent the USS George Washington and South Korea and Japan are tag teaming with their defense systems (which all makes me feel slightly better). I'm still thinking about it all, definitely haven't
  22. Thanks for the advice/motivation guys. I've heard that too Cherbear (re easier to get in as nb resident). Any luck on your end? I see that according to Princeton review the MCAT is changing (50% more questions and time to write, more emphasis on biochemistry)...but It looks like it wont be for another couple years. Thanks silvantes for letting me know about those nb seats at Mun!! Never mentioned it to us at med school presentations oddly. Current plan if i don't get in is to take a TESOL course and teach English in South korea for a year (which I've thought about for a year too in ca
  23. Is it worth it to write the MCAT this summer (and subsequently apply to DalNB either for this coming year or the following year) with a consecutive 2 year of 3.7 and fairly good ec's? (Publishing a Bio paper, volunteering mostly non-hospital based with a couple months of volunteer, worked in hosp for a year, frequent karate competitions (couple first place), went to shad valley). I'm a NB resident also.
