Before you do anything you should ask yourself if you want to pursue medicine or dentistry for the right reasons. I read a couple of red flags in your comment, but obviously I can't know everything about you based on a paragraph.

You might get screened based on your CARS score, and you might not. It depends on the applicant pool, no way to tell.

Looks like they sent out interviews and are waiting until all the people accept their spots to send out rejections.

You have to realize that medical school applicants, medical students, and doctors are people, and so are just as capable of lying, cheating, and doing anything else that human beings tend to do. We have to get the stereotype of the "gentleman doctor" out of mainstream consciousness, because it can be harmful to patient outcomes and the integrity of the medical profession.

You might want to read the fine print on the OMSAS page before doing anything. You're not entitled to a medical school application, and they do advise students to apply well in advance.

11 = 95th percentile? You do realize that's absolute upper range, right? a person scoring in the 84th percentile will also score a 11... to your other point, in what world is a 9% difference in the bottom range of a score a "small difference"...

It's absolutely amazing how you ignored everything I said, and at the same time managed to show your lack of understanding of how percentile ranges work. If you're just going to close your eyes and spew nonsense like what you said above, I see no reason to keep replying to you. That's not how percentiles work. Also, show me where "they claim" that the absolute highest percentile of each score is the most accurate way of comparing the MCATS...

I'm going to repeat what I said earlier because I think it's an important point, and it shouldn't be buried because some old MCAT test taker is trying to derail the conversation. I hope people who got 129 CARS and didn't get an interview continue to be vocal about the fact that they were cheated from an interview spot, and get their voices heard. a 129 CARS is a more impressive score than a 11 VR, there is no logical reason that a person scoring 11 VR (84-95th percentile) on an outdated exam should be given an interview spot over a person who scored higher on a more challenging exam (129 = 87-93rd percentile). a 130 CARS score (93rd-97th percentile) is 9% higher than the bottom range of a 11 VR (84-95th). This 9% difference is ABSOLUTELY NOT INSIGNIFICANT, despite what individuals like the poster above will have you believe. As a percentage of the total number of people who write the MCAT on a yearly basis, this means that the 2014 MCAT has 9000 more people that qualify for western's verbal cutoff compared to the 2015 MCAT (9% of 100,000). People that were cheated  from an interview for absolutely no reason at all, other than to accommodate old MCAT test takers.

The problem isn't that the CARS cutoff was 130. I interviewed this year with the new MCAT, so I would not be bothered at all by the fact that CARS is at 130 EXCEPT for the fact that the VR cutoff was 11... compare the last AAMC published cutoffs for the old MCAT with the 2016 MCAT cutoffs, a 130 CARS matches exactly with a 12 VR, NOT a 11 VR. Either 2015 was a miraculous year such that an abnormally large # of people in Canada did very well on CARS compared to the rest of the world, or the old MCAT was favoured.

So no, this is not at all the same as bio jumping to a 12, because in that situation EVERY applicant was screened the same way, there was an even playing field... I don't care who you are, you have to be in crazy land if you think that there was an even playing field this year. You say that "no MCAT was favoured" when that flies in the face of simple logic... they WANTED to interview a sizable number of old MCAT applicants, that's why the cutoffs were tilted to favour one side. It doesn't matter how much mental gymnastics you go through, there is no other way to explain the situation we had this year. Are you seriously telling me that there is no better way to trim the applicant pool than 127/127/130? really?

we don't have to "pick our poison". the correct number of applicants could have been carved out of a different score distribution. you can look at the psych/soc section, increase one of the 127's, what ever... a 130 CARS is unprecedented in Canada for a cutoff, it's not the right answer, unless you're trying to artificially disqualify the MCAT applicants for a certain year that is... again I very strongly believe that this was the case.

The sooner OMSAS schools stop accepting the old MCAT, the faster we can stop having this problem... fact of the matter is the competitive old MCAT pool is shrinking every year, so this problem will only get worse if they continue to accept both MCATs. a very easy way to not have a 130 CARS cutoff is to look at the psych/soc section of the new MCAT, but they obviously can't do that as long as the old MCAT scores are in consideration...

cut offs are based on the applicant pool. if they're going to keep accepting the old MCAT in the next few years, they will have to artificially lower the cutoffs for the old MCAT at some point, giving the old MCAT takers an unfair advantage to get a sizeable interview pool. otherwise what's the point of accepting the old MCAT if only like 20 people are going to be past the cutoff? I would argue that this point already came this year, others may disagree, but you must see the problem in accepting the old MCAT in the future when the competitive applicant pool will be shrinking every year.

I mean, I scored in the 98th percentile on the new MCAT and barely met their cutoffs. a 10/10/11 score distribution is not in the same universe as a 127/127/130. What ever they do, I hope it's fair, unlike what they did this year which imo was not fair at all. Yes, the cutoffs are based on the applicant pool, but how you weight the cutoffs and the number of old MCAT interview spots are controlled internally, so they can't just give the lame "based on applicant pool" excuse.

How they handled this was not how I would have handled it, which would have been to accept the old MCAT, but set the cutoffs so that they are proportional between the two versions of the MCAT, even though that may translate to fewer old MCAT interview spots. But what do I know, I'm just an insignificant grain in the wheat farm

Realistically, how many more years do you think there will be enough competitive old MCAT applicants? This year already we saw a lot of people complainning about the unfair cut-off distribution between the old MCAT and the new MCAT. I think it'll be even worse next year as the number of high old MCAT scores decreases year by year. They will have to stop accepting the old MCAT in the near future or the cut offs will be ridiculously low compared to the new MCAT, even more-so than this year.

Well, instead of setting the cutoff at 12 and eliminating a lot of old MCAT applicants, they set the cutoff at 130 and eliminated a lot of new MCAT applicants...

It's sheer insanity. Again, I scored at the 98th percentile and I almost didn't pass their cutoffs. Think about that... it is almost criminal that one applicant pool is subjected to a 11 VR cutoff, and the other to a 130 CARS. There is no reason that old MCAT applicants should be favoured over new MCAT applicants, and I could tell you a million reasons why but you've probably heard all of them. What's next, are the CR cutoffs going to be 10 and 131 next cycle, so we can cater to applicants who don't want to write the new MCAT and give enough of them interview spots? There has to be a breaking point here.

Again, if you're going to accept the old MCAT, you have to be fair... you can't just screw a sizeable portion of your applicants to please old MCAT test takers. If they're going to accept the old MCAT next cycle too, i don't know what's going to happen given the old MCAT pool will be even less competitive, but hopefully I won't be an applicant next year so I don't have to worry about it.
