I'm using the Scotia LOC and from what I've researched there are no downsides that i can think of (I actually will be using my LOC though).
There are some conditions you have to meet to get all the perks, but other than that I don't see why not. You don't have to actually use the LOC to meet any of the conditions.

Ya, based on my (light) reading on the subject, it sounds like they have a tape recording of him planting a recording device in a unisex changing room.

If he's guilty (very likely at this point) this dude should not be trusted with being a gas station clerk (no disrespect) let alone a medical doctor.

Also, it's very likely that he's done this before, this was just the time he got caught. I hope police are doing a deep dive on his hard drive and internet history.

I was making a joke, no hard feelings to OP lol.

Most med school students come from a privileged background to I'm glad we have some people from other perspectives. I also come from a poor family though I don't have the financial issues you mentioned with the LOC.

Edit: it'll definitely be worth it just from a financial perspective (most of us here are also passionate about the medical science aspect too). I always find it funny that many people in these forums complain about 200-300K salaries, and people seem to think that lawyers / engineers / business students are making that sort of money. I can tell you my sister is a business graduate and I have engineers, lawyers and dentists in my family, all of them are fairly successful and non of them are making anywhere near that for the foreseeable future. As a business graduate from the best business program in this country, my sister will be in the top 10% of her profession if she ever breaks 6 figures.

So ya, financially you'll be fine, even if it doesn't seem like it right now.

No, I was planning on calling them to ask. The email said the amount would be deducted automatically but my tuition bill is still 25k plus the 1k deposit I already paid...

Lol cases like this demonstrate how spectacularly wrong medical schools are if they think they're doing anything to select for the desired soft skills they're looking for

It's kind of hard to talk objectively about this issue on a board filled with premeds and medical students. I definitely don't think this system is sustainable, if we're going to continue to offer healthcare to everyone (which we should) then something needs to give.
I can't think of any other industrialized nation in the world that pays it's doctors the rates at which we do in North America. I think that's an area that should be looked into more going forward by policy makers, though it's going to be tough when we have to compete with the US system to retain our physicians. It's hard to imagine that there is ever a situation which justifies a physician billing the government for millions of dollars. There are world class physicians in Europe working just as hard while making a fraction of that. I don't know what the answers are but I definitely know things can't go on like this.

Our number one priority should be maintaining the integrity of the system, not maintaining physician salaries.

No one is going to check your previous submission from another year and compare it to your recent submission lmao. You're really over estimating the amount of resources and care that is dedicated to the medical admissions process. As long as you put in good verifiers you're good.

Well I don't think being a functioning adult and living home during undergrad to save rent are mutually exclusive. I would still recommend the average person stay close to home unless they're hyper-dependent on their parents.
Also our perspectives on this might differ because of cultural differences, which is all good.

I would go to the school that's furthest from your parents so you can avoid not becoming an adult before med school that way.
