  1. Hey everyone! In case this hasn't yet been cross posted to the forum: Congratulations on getting interviews. This is a HUGE accomplishment and understand that you're nearly in! To help with the interview preparations the MD 2024 will continue the annual Mock Interview. This is an opportunity to practice your interview skills with 1st year uOttawa medical students in an interview 'like' setting. PLEASE NOTE: The mock interviews are open only to those applicants that have been invited for an interview. Sign up begins : FEBRUARY 2nd, 2021 The link is as
  2. I had a similar experience of about 8 people interviewing for 4 spots. 4 people were accepted that year. They seem consistent year by year. The MD/PhD interview would be similar to a MD interview with questions that ask about yourself (e.g., hobbies), your education, your interest in the field (e.g., why medicine) and also you can expect some acting/role playing and ethical scenarios. You could also expect to talk about research experiences, specialties of interest, your interest in the program (Why MD/PhD vs. the various other routes - such as MD with CIP - or PhD then a MD), et

  5. Hi Stats! 2) You don't. However, I made it a point to interview with a couple potential supervisors prior to my interview. This, in particularly, was helpful for the UBC interview. It also, in my opinion, helps streamline the matching process. Also, it gives you an idea of the labs at the university. Also something to write and talk about in your applications and interview, respectively. I gleaned that this was not the 'norm' from other applicants based on those I talked to during the interviews. 1) I did have a fairly strong research background (though this is relative). My r
  6. For those who might benefit from this information (present and future): uOttawa has released their acceptances for the MD/PhD program (Monday, March 4th). Interviews were held mid-late February. There were around 8-10 applicants interviewed for roughly 4 spots. We (or at least I) have until March 13th to confirm, or reject, the acceptance. Congrats to those who got accepted! I hope this might help those curious about the program in terms of interview/acceptance dates.
  7. Hi Economisto, In case you haven't found your answer: I received acceptance earlier last week into the MD/PhD program at UBC (what was termed 'early acceptance'). According to the email this was both an acceptance to the PhD and MD (i.e., both committees confirmed an acceptance after reviewing my file). For further information: We were informed acceptances were to be delivered between February and April. I would imagine this means that there will be no need to send an additional letter in May. Hope this helps! HI

Just goes to show that interviews elsewhere do not guarantee interviews somewhere else. Nor does being competitive in one stream (MD/PhD) equate to being competitive in another (MD). The process is a random one too
  15. In the same boat as Darkpassenger as a waitlister at other schools (Queens, uOttawa and Mac). It'll be exciting to see some movement the next couple of weeks as people make decisions.
