  1. Does anybody know if Athabasca courses taken during fall or winter semester count as part of your course load for u of c med?
  2. Hi everyone, I just learned that in my final term I do not have any graded courses because of my practicum. I really need my first year dropped for GPA calculation purposes. Does anyone know if I can take online courses through Athabasca during fall or winter semester and if these courses could count towards the GPA calculation used for med school? Thanks!
  3. Hi everyone, I'm currently a nursing student going into 3rd year. My GPA for 2nd year is a 3.45 (didn't include first year as it wouldn't count for UofC med anyways..) My story is that out of uni I had a 92% average without studying apart for my physics diploma. I applied for neurosci and didn't get in, so I chose to pursue nursing as my second choice. My dad (who comes from a family of nurses) insisted that I go into nursing because that way I would have a back up plan if med didn't work out. Ever since I entered uni, I've had the goal of pursuing medicine. However, now that I'm
  4. Hi everyone, So I'm currently studying Geriatrics and Post partum this semester. Last semester I ended with a 3.7, and I didn't full too much effort into studying. This semester, one of my classes is heavily based on NCLEX to prepare us for that exam. I understand this, but I got a 72 (C+) on one of my midterms. As a C+ is needed to even move onto next year, I feel extremely panicked and lost. Does anyone have any tips for studying for these types of tests?? I can kiss the med school dream goodbye, now I'm really just wanting to pass nursing school.
  5. Hi everyone, I wanted to take the MCAT this summer, but not apply until 2017 as I did poorly first year and need that year to be dropped (I am currently in 2nd year). I am just wondering if it matters how long ago you took the MCAT (I know that is has to be the 2015 MCAT) matters? Also, does U of C med look at how many times you apply? I know this is thinking far ahead, but I am more than willing to apply multiple times, but I'm not sure if each consecutive application has a decreased chance. Thanks!
  6. No, I have not written the MCAT yet. I am planning to do it in 2017, so that I can apply after my third year. Can I ask what prep tools you used to prepare for the MCAT? And also, does it matter how many times you apply? Thanks for your comment
  7. Hi everyone, non-trad/2nd yr nursing student here. Realized that my post might be more relevant here opposed to the general pre med forum as I really only want to attend UofC (not competitive enough to apply as OOP for any other school).... GPA Based on current achievements (if my grades are to neither improve or worsen... just realized how much I want to do med recently, so hopefully i can increase this): 3.72 ECs (By the time I apply) - Piano Player for 11 years (RCM Certified w/honors and distinction, competed with one award, play recreationally now) - 2 years volunteering at 2
  8. Hi everyone, non-trad/2nd yr nursing student here. I am hoping to apply after my 3rd year to UofC, as I am IP. GPA Based on current achievements (if my grades are to neither improve or worsen... just realized how much I want to do med recently, so hopefully i can increase this): 3.72 ECs (By the time I apply) - Piano Player for 11 years (RCM Certified w/honors and distinction, competed with one award, play recreationally now) - 2 years volunteering at 2 hospitals - 2 years of research (volunteer work throughout 2 years and one studentship/summer research project) - 2 years volunt
  9. Good to hear that Kaplan is helpful! I was leaning towards this
  10. Thanks so much:) I will definitely try Quebec! I was in french immersion... maybe now I can finally put it to use haha
  11. That's great to hear that you have a plan! Can I ask where you are taking Nursing? I have myself also applied for some electives, but my faculty emailed me and told me I had to drop them because my schedule would not accommodate for those courses. Hopefully I can do some of them in spring/summer. Can I also ask which MCAT prep courses you are taking? I was considering Kaplan. And also what you think of them.. My first year in nursing was a more "general studies" year and I took a few practice MCATs and a lot of the questions were similar to those I had seen in my intro bio and chem course
  12. Thank you so much! Its quite nice hearing it from another nursing student who is doing well!
  13. I would love to get involved in research pertaining to human anatomy. But I am honestly open to any kind of research... I don't have any experience and anything would be great
