VanillaUK got a reaction from DrOtter in Podcast episode with current UOttawa med student
Here is an overall breakdown of what is covered in the episode:
Brief introduction Who they are What school they go to Where their school is located  Class size Distribution of students across different campuses (if applicable)  Admissions requirements for the 2020/2021 application cycle  Different applicant pools/streams (if applicable) GPA requirement/minimums MCAT requirement/minimums Other requirements (such as CASPer, if applicable) Average stats of the previously admitted med class  Interview - what style is the interview? How did you find it? Any surprises? Curriculum Basic outline of their weekly schedule - breakdown of lectures vs. clinical time vs. small-group learning, etc. How their years are organized (e.g. blocked by organ system, vs. something like an anatomy block then a physiology block, etc.)  Strong points of their curriculum  Weak points or challenges of their curriculum Major differences from other medical schools   General experiences Culture and environment - Welcoming? Enjoyable? Would you recommend the school to others?  Difficulty/workload - Manageable? Too much? Is there enough time to also pursue research or other extracurriculars? Outside of school - How's the social side of things? Are there clubs, social events, etc.? What would you say is the school's 'main selling point' if an applicant were to be picking between their school and another?

VanillaUK got a reaction from hijkl in Schulich MS1 here... I've attached all my interview prep. materials from last year. Please feel free to ask me any questions that you have!
Title pretty much says it all. I'm a MS1 at Schulich, and last year I made a website with all my MCAT resources and all my interview resources too. I'm guessing if you're reading this you've already done the MCAT, but you might find my interview prep materials useful.
You can find it all here - https://ultimatepremedpackage.ca/interviewing/
Please let me know if you have any questions! Of course, I can't tell you what questions they asked me, etc., but I can give general information about the day or whatever.
I might see some of you for your interview day, but if not - good luck! You'll do great!

VanillaUK got a reaction from apple94 in Pluripotent Premed - a new podcast for Canadian premeds from the author of Ultimate Premed Package!
Hi all! My name is Christopher and I am the author of www.UltimatePremedPackage.ca which I know a few of you have found to be a useful resource for your premed journey.
This summer a classmate and I have been busy working on a new podcast called Pluripotent Premed which we intent to act as an audio guide for navigating the premed years as a Canadian applicant. We dive into all topics related to the MCAT, med school interview, extracurriculars, and more. We will also be interviewing classmates of ours who are got into med from alternative backgrounds (e.g. arts, nursing, other careers) and also those who are pursuing an M.D./PhD to give you a better idea of how the program works and what to expect.
Today is the release date for 'Episode 0', which is an introductory episode that doesn't have any specific premed content, but rather just introduces us and the podcast, and what to expect. From here on out, we will release an episode every Monday.
If this sounds like something that you're interested in, please check us out on social media (Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and on podcasting platforms (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, and most other major podcasting platforms). I will post an episode release schedule in the comments so that you know what episodes are coming up!
I will post an episode release schedule below so that you know what episodes are coming up!
Thanks for reading! We are really excited about this project and we hope to help as many people as possible. Please feel free to message me on here or on our Facebook page if you have any questions!

TL;DR - the author of Ultimate Premed Package has teamed up with a classmate to make a premed podcast directed at Canadian premeds to guide you through the MCAT, interviews, and more. Episodes every Monday

VanillaUK got a reaction from abouttimeijoined in Admissions Statistics
For anyone else out there who obsesses over numbers, I did some statistics based on a 3-year average (2015-2017), with numbers plucked from the official dean's reports (2015) (2016) (2017).
Every year on average, there are:
    2,577 total applicants ... (2,473 + 2,775 + 2,483) / 3 449 candidates invited to interview ... (457 + 441 + 449) / 3) 171 seats filled (133 in London, 38 in Windsor) - this has been the same for the last 3 years.  A first year class with a demograph of 58.3% male and 41.7% female ... Males: (61 + 59 + 55) / 3 ... Females: (39 + 41 + 45) / 3 17.4% of all applicants get an interview ... (449/2,577)*100 6.6% of all applicants get a seat ... (171/2,577) * 100 38.1% of interviewees get a seat ... (171/449) * 100 NOTE: These statistics do not consider waitlist movement, which can actually be huge in some years (e.g. the 2017 Dean's reports suggest that, for applicants from SW Ontario alone, 72 were offered acceptance into the program, while only 42 of those accepted the offer - that's a waitlist movement of 30 people!)
Feel free to check the math, add anything I missed, or discuss below.

I remember last year when I was waiting to hear back, I obssessed over things like admissions statistics for previous years. I thought some of you might find this interesting - I've attached the admissions statistics for my class, the Class of 2022.
    It covers:
Applicant pool Seat distribution (SWOMEN / non-SWOMEN / Indigenous) Gender Highest degrees of admitted students  Academic metrics (GPA and MCAT) Age Residence University attended previously AdmissionStatistics_Medicine_Classof2022.pdf

Letter of Intent is much bigger in the states, and I don't know if they're completely necessary here, but I sent one anyway because it definitely can't hurt your chances.

I sent a short email the day of my interview to the general point of contact for admissions, simply saying that I really enjoyed having the opportunity to interview at the school, and asking if they could pass on my thanks to my interviewers for their time.
Then, a week later, I again contacted the general point of contact for admissions with another email, this time with a Letter of Intent attached. The admissions office replied to me and told me that they had put my letter on my file.

All you need to know about writing one of these letters can be found from the links on my website. They don't take too long to write, they show that you are mature and professional, and who knows - they could be the one thing that tips the scale in your favour.

    Best of luck!
