TheFlyGuy got a reaction from itski in May 11 Countdown Party 2021!
For the last couple years OMSAS has updated @ midnight, but as pointed out above it seems to happen not all at once. For me, right at midnight the only one to do so was Mac, though most others (fairly) quickly followed suit. I think Toronto was last. School-specific portals were also variable, like Western's came up real quick, even before OMSAS, but Queen's was like 1-2 days behind.
The only real bummer is that if you don't see any offers @ midnight you don't know whether they're just slow on the update, or you really didn't get an offer. Even then, no way to differentiate between the waitlist and the R, so it can make for a lot of anxiety. My advice is always to just wait for the e-mails to know for sure but... who can resist checking at midnight lmao, I know I didn't

Like abcd1288 said, have the day cleared either to celebrate (accepted) or take care of yourself (waitlisted or rejected) if possible. If you're someone who likes to stay busy then plan some activities that you can do.  I took a long walk afterwards all by myself, and that really helped clear my head and put things into perspective.
I also reminded myself that I didn't owe anyone an explanation. I didn't tell anyone what day the decision came out, I just vaguely said "sometime in May". I took about 4 days before I did tell anyone. I've done the same thing this year. If you haven't told anyone the date yet, I personally wouldn't start or remind anyone. That's just me though and someone else might like people checking in and having those people to talk to as well so think about whats best for you.
It can be a tough pill to swallow. Don't feel guilty about experiencing any one of the emotions you may go through. I thought I would take it like a champ, but I felt so entirely hopeless and sad. Be kind to yourself as much as possible. I had to consciously remind myself about how far I came in that cycle and what an accomplishment that was for me in and of itself.
After that, in a few days, I thought about my interview again now that I had received my result. I thought about those moments that I didn't do so well and I started to think about what I would want to do if I got a chance to interview again. Focusing on things that I could control really helped me to move forward and improve for my next application cycle. It took my mind off of what I couldn't control (being waitlisted, then rejected) and onto something I could control. I'm planning to do this again after May 11 so that I have something to work on to pull myself out of any potential ruts I get into if I end up being rejected
Hope that helps, kind of went off on a tangent a couple times

Honestly, #buttongate kept me very busy last year LOL. I’d come home from work and spend an hour or two catching up on the posts, theories, checking OMSAS, etc. It was definitely a time passer that I didn’t mind as I was then an hour or two closer to a decision

This is also probably the angle I would take. Not really suitable for an ABS entry, but a good topic for essays where it might be relevant, of which there could be many

Interesting! I would be interested to compare those numbers to prior years; I know a lot of people gun for Mac due to the shorter length of the program (which is both good and bad), so even though it's still a popular choice I wonder if it's up or down relative to past cycles.

Preach. Really the biggest factor in admissions in this province lol.

I don’t have numbers on this, but last year I heard from quite a few people through word of mouth that they were leaning away from Mac, and this year (so far) I’ve heard the same, so there might be a bit more movement than usual on their wait list. I’m sure the poorly run interview process over the last two years has something to do with it, but when I was considering Mac last year I talked directly with at least one Mac student (now a second year) who pretty explicitly recommended I go elsewhere if I had the choice. I got the sense that it was due to how Mac was handling teaching and lack of faculty responsiveness to student feedback during the pandemic, but it’s hard to say for sure. Just food for thought for those who end up with a choice on the 11th, not to put a damper on things for those with their hearts set on Mac!

Gonna have to agree on the second undergrad take. It's a pain, but as they say GPA is king, and you can chip away at getting involved with some more ECs along the way to build up longstanding ones. Should be able to cover both at the same time, to an extent.

Yeah far as I could figure the "Reset Responses" button only related to Mac somehow, and I think most/all of the people who had it ended up waitlisted there. It was a really weird bug, because like @DrOtter said that's only supposed to show up when you have an offer to respond to, after they've been released on D-day. Ended up being a real gut punch to the folks who got the R after having the button, on top of the lottery shenanigans and everything, really felt for em. But I hear this year's process hasn't been much better hahaha

Here're my personal notes for some of the Ontario programs (correct me if I'm wrong!):
Toronto: Service heavy (strict 1:4 call throughout, but there are plans to reduce the calls for PGY2/PGY3s), great teaching, mixed reviews re: collegiality/culture (and can vary depending on base hospital). Several residents from the GTA said it was worth it for the city/staying close to family.
Queen's: Relatively few calls (average 4-5 calls per block), super collegial, residents are happy. Slightly smaller catchment area so the fellowship programs may not be the best.
Western: Also very collegial, and residents are happy. Relatively light call burden in PGY2/PGY3 years (don't have the exact numbers unfortunately). Free lunches. Lots of formal/informal teaching.
Ottawa: Collegial group, and program is overall very supportive. Large catchment area.  Some staff still expect post-call rounding. There are plans of introducing a night float system but timing is uncertain.

Nope no need to dress up, you can even keep your cam off if you like! Just a way to learn a little about the program and meet some students.

Yep, omsas updated for me right at midnight, and all of the emails came through the next morning between 8-9:30am or so. Some of the student portals also update early; I specifically remember Western’s doing so pretty quickly, in case you don’t trust omsas alone haha

Since graduate grades count for next to nothing at most schools, you're probably looking at a second undergraduate if you want to be viable anywhere in Canada, as your gpa as it stands will unfortunately get you screened out across the board. In any case you'll need to shoot for at least >3.7 in 2 full years of study to get your foot in the door at schools that don't look at/require all 4 years of grades, but preferably even better to be genuinely competitive (3.8/3.9+). Definitely not too late to go down that path, but it probably is worth some serious thinking if all of the additional time and sacrifice will be worth it to you personally.

By end of day today I imagine the vast majority will have gone out given the 2 weeks notice they always try to give (so there's definitely hope until then), but there's also always a shortlist of people on the interview waitlist until pretty close to the final interview date, who will scoop up any spots as a result of cancellations and whatnot. There's obviously a lot less invites that go out that way, but it can happen. With Toronto it's really never over till you get the R, which can unfortunately take a long while. It's a really crummy & stressful process for sure though, hang in there

Thank you for that! So there are people with late invites who get in eh? I'd think if interview is worth 50%, and the late invitees were "low-ranked", they'd have to do extremely well in the interview (compared to others) to make the final cut... but if there are people that have made it in then that's reassuring.
