Result: Accepted!!!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT
    Timestamp: 9:11 AM MST
Geography: IP (I believe I qualified as rural)
    GPA: 90% average --> 3.79 at U of A, U of C gives me a 3.87! lol
    MCAT: 506 (!!!) 129 CARS
    Degree: BSc in Nursing
ECs: Oh gosh this was my strong suit for sure. Message me for details!
Interview: Felt really good about it!!! 1 reviewer said some very positive things to me and that felt awesome. Felt the best of my interviews.
I SERIOUSLY CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I owe it all to God and my family for all of the support and help over the years, as well as countless others who have helped me along the way. I am very interested in paying it forward so please message me if I can help you!!!
Don't give up!!! I didn't get ANY interviews last year, got multiple this year and so far 1 acceptance.
For those of us that got in.... please don't think you're better than anyone else!!! There is so much luck involved in the process. I seriously don't believe that I am better than anyone else. Every year there are 1000's of people that would make excellent doctors, and only a small percentage are successful. I am truly only so so fortunate.
Best of luck everyone. Sending hugs and support to those that didn't get good news today.

    Result: Acceptance
Timestamp: literally didn't get an email yet, just on Launchpad!
    Geography: OOP
    GPA: 4.0
    MCAT: 129/129/130/130
    Degree: BScN 2018
ECs: Highlights included 2.5 years of working as an ER RN plus 4 years as a barista/supervisor at a coffee shop during my degree, two RN volunteering gigs, healthcare-related research, one poster presentation. No publications. Essay topics included working at a remote nursing station and overcoming an MVI/concussion to finish my degree. Feel free to PM me for more details!
Interview: Honestly I was expecting a rejection after the interview - I didn't feel like it went well at all. I had answers to everything but did a lot of rambling. I do have a ton of relevant personal experience, maybe that made up for the lack of coherent structure.
Thoughts: So grateful to get in! I'll be declining if I'm accepted to UBC.

edit - declining for UBC! So happy to open up another spot!!

    GPA: 3.72
    MCAT: 507 (126/125/127/129)
    Current/Past Degree: BScN
    Geography (IP/OOP):  IP
Extracurricular Activities score (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): various volunteer positions working with vulnerable communities, a couple strong leadership positions, allied health employment. I tried to really “be myself” in the written portions of my app so they could get a tiny sense of “me” as a person aside from just my ECs.
CASPer: unsure as it’s hard to gauge, seemed okay-ish
This is my second time applying, last year I didn’t get an interview. The UofA is my first choice institution, so I’m extraordinarily grateful for an opportunity to interview this year!

In advance, I hope this encourages the poo out of people, because I have been super hard on myself - although medicine is most definitely my dream I understand my GPA and MCAT is all very below average, so this is my first time applying now that I am finishing my MSc. I LOVE YOU ALL. Keep trying if it didn't work out because if there is hope for me, anyone can do it. For real. I swear they got to randomize these things (I don't want to be-little my life experience however).
    time Stamp: 1:04 pm
    Result: INVITE
    GPA: 3.43
MCAT: 492 -> 502 (wrote it in my 3rd year, & wrote it last fall. I wrote all 6 practice exams AAMC also and was scoring between 518-521 so I had a whole new mid life crisis after writing the real exam, knew it went trash. I think I may have come to the conclusion I have testing issues at this point haha)
Current/Past Degree: BSc in Biology, MSc
    Geography (IP/OOP):  IP
Extracurricular Activities score /16 (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): I filled out every section. I do think my personal highlights likely stood out, I got pretty personal. However if the rest of the stats don't give anyone out there hope I don't know what will. I WAS ON CLOUD 9 YESTERDAY LET ME TELL Y'ALL.
    CASPer: felt ok?

    Current/Past Degree: BSc 4th Year
    Geography (IP/OOP):  OOP
Extracurricular Activities score (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.):
0-25 percentile according to UBC. Not good enough for Queens. Good enough for Ottawa.
Employment: Lab and Lecture TA, In-home child-minding, tutor. Leadership: Badminton coach, Summer camp leader, intramural VB team captain, competitive+rec badminton. Life Exp+achievements: Indoor VB, Beach VB, Science Blog writer, Pianist (recreational). Volunteer: ER volunteer, program volunteer (very short commitment 25 hours), assistant vb coach, fish farm helper (way back in high school).
I'm going to guess the "personal highlights" part really helped me. I talked about an incredibly difficult time in my life and I feel like that really shone through as my ECs are probably not that special compared to the other OOP applicants.
    Casper and Snapshot:
Waitlisted for McMaster OOP (3.95/129) , Rejected from Queens, Good enough for Ottawa. I'm going to take a guess that it was definitely above average (50-75 percentile) but nothing extraordinary. Answered all questions with at least 3 sentences. WPM 100+ helped.

Hey! Just wanted to provide a little update. I started my application a couple weeks ago and had not yet entered any references. Today I just happened to check my launchpad and I was able to add EC information without having added my references yet   Just wanted to pass this along in case some of you are hoping to get your references in later. It does appear as though references are contacted immediately after entry, so if you want to hold off to give yourself time to evaluate who you want as a reference I believe you can!

    Result: ACCEPTED!!
    Geography: IP
    GPA: 3.63
    MCAT: 506 (126CP/124CARS/125BB/131PS) Re-wrote last august, scored 499 lol
    Degree: Nursing graduated 2017
E.C:  Long term employment since 14 years. Full-time nurse in the department of federal public safety; paediatric case management, pharmaceutical trials; Clinic lead for workplace health clinics locally and nationally. 5+ years community outreach work with vulnerable populations, heavy involvement with fitness industry and started school initiatives/ clubs, coaching. Long term experience abroad. Other random self-taught creative hobbies including community advocacy projects, photography, owning a business, marketing management, book publishing. Zero research. I wrote about personal challenges candidly in my personal essays. My experiences are all closely related and paint a clear picture of my values.
Interview: I loved the interview and was ecstatic when I heard about the new format. I felt like I really engaged with all the interviewers and was very purposeful with my answers. I incorporated very personal experiences and felt I was able to share a bit about myself at all times. I thought I almost made one of the interviewers cry because I shared something pretty intense and they were very engaged.
Thoughts: I'm still pinching myself ... I'm over the moon and can't believe this is real!! I was rejected pre-interview last year and this year at Calgary. U of A was my first and only interview so I put tons of pressure on myself to prep. I'm shocked that I was able to make it considering my very low GPA and MCAT (especially my 499 rewrite, I thought I was a goner). But I hold my head high and proud that my life experience has carried me through this process and I'm now feeling just a bit proud of myself. Thank you everyone for your support, and to everyone still on this journey, PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out to me, I will gladly provide as much support and advice through this harrowing process. Thank you, and I can't wait to start this journey with my med fam.
