Interesting thought...Is this assumption based on anything? At my school exam averages have been about the same, and many people are experiencing the exact opposite of grade inflation with the switch to online. A lot of professors are simply adding a heavier work load, or administering long take home exams that are harshly graded. Or, timed exams are so packed that people don't have time to finish them - they definitely don't have time to cheat... Professors who have never taught online are often woefully disorganized and students have a hard time keeping track of what is what. People are trying to study in their homes with their whole family in the way, or working extra shifts in the hospital. At least in my life, everyone I know has found this last semester harder by far. The people who have tried using Chegg or similar tutoring platforms have been caught and slapped with Academic Dishonesty right away, which closes a lot of doors.

...I'm glad it has been easier where you are! But I wouldn't assume it's been an automatic piece of cake 4.0 for everyone. Ultimately I don't think this is going to be a huge factor going forward. Also, I'm expecting the hype to die down eventually. But, of course... more applicants will always drive fiercer competition, no doubt.

Time Stamp (i.e. include date and time): 15:23 AST
Result (i.e. invite or regrets): Regrets
    GPA/AGPA (i.e. whichever is applicable): 91.46 (US studies, 4.0)
MCAT (i.e. total score and breakdown in the order of CP/CARS/BB/PS): 519 (131/128/129/131)
Geography (i.e. IP or OOP): OOP
ECs (i.e. brief rundown of Research Pubs/Presentations, Awards, Employment, and Non-Academic Activities - also Rural stuff if you want/if it applies): Decent Research, decent Awards, unique employment experience, mature applicant, BC ties and former BC residency, extensive rural background across Canada and Alaska. Some volunteering but pretty meager there, some paid work as multicultural student advocate, no clinical experience.
NAQ Range (i.e. what quartile you fell in): Says 75-100, looks like 60th percentile on the slider though.
Your Result (i.e. relative to interview cutoff): Sandwiched between the IP and OOP interview cut off, skewed to the right.
Congratulations to all who have made the cut off. For the others... just remember that « failure » doesn’t define you. Most of us are well qualified, but it’s just that competitive. Good luck in the future and with your other apps!

Hope has died a slow and painful death today. Would have been nicer to be told straight up. I wonder why they don’t send invites and rejections at the same time really.

    OOP
    MCAT: 519
    GPA 4.0/4.0
    Extensive rural background
    Some socioeconomic factors
I stink at CASPer, mcat too low to make it based on previous stats... But you can’t win if you don’t play?

Brutal, yes. Buuut you're well within the range to get an II still. An average is just that, and you're damn close.  Best of luck to you.

    I agree!
I think what bothers me most about medical school applications is that the vast majority of applicants would make great doctors. I attended a zoom call that U of C med hosted this summer, and the Dean of Admissions said something to this effect: "If you have successfully submitted an application that has gone for review, congratulations -- you are already amongst the top 10% of your peers."
On that note, I hope we all get to be colleagues one day

What a wholesome post!  I work as a nurse, & other than that I've been hitting the gym, playing with my dog, and stress baking (you would not believe how many shortbread cookies I have made ((and eaten))  in the last few days......)
