  1. I am applying to small speciality and I recently did an elective and I worked with multiple preceptors.. I asked one of the preceptors if it's Ok to write me a reference letter and they told me they only spent 1.5 days with me and they think I should ask another preceptor. Does that mean they disliked me?? Is it worth it to even apply to that specialty? My ITER overall was good for the elective.
  2. Half of my ITERS have been satisfactory and the other have were outstanding.. I also had a comment in my first core rotation saying that I was not knowledgable in anesthesia and I need to do more reading in anesthesia... other than that it is mostly professional, keen, or enthusiastic or pleasure to work with.. Do program directors care about your ITERS?
  3. I was also told to avoid Calgary FM program for these reasons and apparently given the situation in AB some FM grads have to practice in a rural area after graduation...
  4. OK- even if you say a strong reference letter? I don't think that the preceptor disliked me or anything- Its just that he did not say it would be really nice to write you one or pleasure to write you one.. he just you are strong clerk overall and here is one thing that I encourage you to do more in the rest of your clerkship
  5. I asked for a reference letter today and preceptor had to think for a second before he said yes. I ask him if he can write a strong reference letter and siad its totally fine if he can't write one.. Do most preceptors just say yes to be nice?
  6. inttersting, since plastic sx, opthalmology, and derm are very lucrative, how do PD make sure that students are interested in subject matter rather than $$$?
  7. No way they make that much.... I know academic dermatologist /plastic surgeons make as much as any other specialist... lolI have never heard of those numbers lol
  8. I am a first author of three papers, that I will be submitting in the next 1-2 weeks. When it comes to applying to Carms - does it have to be accepted to a journal for me to add to my CV? I spent so much time on research work andI am concerned that they wont be published by the time I submit my Carms application
  9. She was surprised to heart that i am interested in a surgical speciality and she told me that she thinks I have FM personality (She is a family physician herself).. What exactly is a FM personality?
  10. When your preceptors say you are where you are supposed to be... does that mean they are not impressed lol... I keep hearing that from my IM preceptors and was wondering if they think I am horrible Lol
  11. Prior to clerkship, I was interested in competitive specialty and I have built my resume for this specialty , but as I am going through clerkship I feel that I have less and less desire to pursue 5+ years of residency and sometimes I feel like I should do FM because I liked the rotation and I felt that it was very easy for me.. On my FM block, I did not have to study and I was not trying to impress and yet I ended up with really good grades... I feel that I will be able to finish FM residency with no problem and with less effort, whereas I found pursuing specialty will require more work and e
  12. I was talking with my friend about starting a project with a preceptor in the speciality that I am interested in and a colleague overheard the conversation and asked me if he can join the same project / introduce me to the preceptor I am doing research with because he is also interested in the same specialty.. How should i respond? We are not close friends at all and I was surprised by his request and I am not sure what to say/handle situation?
  13. How do you deal with scoring below average in medical school. I usually try to do my best but I often end up with grades that are slightly below average. How can I improve my studying? How can I become better student?
  14. Any tips? Are you allowed to discuss what you hope to achieve if you get accepted into their residency program?
  15. I'm interested in a competitive speciality in carms, and was wondering how can I ask preceptors to be involved in case reports? Should I email some of the preceptors that I know? Thank you !
  16. Is the salary actually $50/hour? Are they able to work 8 hours a day or do they not have enough clients/customers? The one person that I know has been working as a dietician for few years now, and she is currently getting paid $50/hour, but she usually does not work full-time because she does not have enough clients.
  17. How do they differ in terms of the following aspects: - capacity to progress in career -salary - work life balance I've been thinking of becoming a dietician but in the past friends have been dissuading me from being one because apparently they don't contribute much to hospital healthcare team, and there is no progress in careers, not enough jobs.. but I also heard that they make $50/hour ( which is more than nurse's salary per hour).
