Applicant95 got a reaction from TheHopefulMD in Mcgill Interview Invites/regrets 2020
    TIME STAMP: 11:58
    Result:  Invite!
    cGPA: 3.84
    MCAT: 524
ECs: Below average I think. Lots of diverse experiences (have written a novel, made a short film, budget/solo travelling, volunteering) but little research.
    Year: MSc
Casper: I *thought* it went below average, but I ended up getting interviews to Mac, Manitoba, and McGill despite my GPA being a bit lower than average so it must have went well. I didn't prepare for CASPer at all, but I am luckily a fast typer so I guess that helped
    IP/OOP/International: OOP (Ontario)
    Letter of EC: Yes
Honestly was not expecting this at all, so I'm feeling very fortunate. For those who were rejected, I honestly feel that med school in Canada is sooooo competitive and that so much of it is luck of the draw. Hang in there! Still 6ish schools to hear back from!

The website lists the next potential offer, meaning that right now offers have gone out to OOP #1-#4. You are next in line for an offer, but the offer hasn't been made as of now.
If the website moves to #6, and you still haven't gotten an offer, that's when you should start asking questions.

Applicant95 reacted to CHG in Class of 2024 Online v In-Person
Hey! I'm an oweek coordinator so might be able to contribute a bit. Schulich wants us to get back to class in person ASAP, so they're trying to secure PPE and other necessary materials and work out the details. First priority will be those parts of the curriculum that can't be delivered online very well. As soon as we can get back to in-person we will be!!!!
Oweek is looking at several options. Of course we want to be in person as much as you guys do but this might look like smaller group interactions instead of the typical 171 of us doing everything together. We're doing everything we can to make sure you guys get the experience and get to know each other just like we did, including the possibility of further integration when more restrictions are lifted!
honestly when it comes down to it it'll be the government and western deciding what the rules are and Schulich and Oweek will all have to work around that. We're going to be keeping you guys as up to date as possible throughout the summer on fb to hopefully alleviate some of the anxiety.
That being said plz continue collecting all the hearsay and conspiracy theories here and maybe I'll come steal the best ideas

Applicant95 reacted to CHG in If we get accepted... what's our next steps?
It's all going to be on the Facebook page! Housing guide and a roommate sign up sheet will be posted together at the end of May, along with a comparison spreadsheet of line of credit options. If you can think of any other info that would be helpful let me know! also if you don't have fb shoot me a DM and we'll figure it out

Applicant95 got a reaction from goodvibes in extending an offer deadline??
That's a shitty situation. I'm going to go against the grain and say that you should consider declining Mac. It's true that it's not 100% whether or not you'd be accepted to Western (and if you are, it could be Windsor campus) but there's probably a 90%+ chance you will be. It's up to you whether that 10% is worth moving away from your fiancée, and either decision would be understandable - I don't think it's as clearcut as taking Mac's offer because (in this situation) a small risk seems worth it.
As for asking Mac to extend your offer, I doubt they would, but you may as well email them. No harm done, even if you already know they'll probably say no.

    2-year GPA: 3.92
    MCAT: 129/131/130
Interview: In-person. I practiced a fair bit, once or twice a week starting in November, though slacked off near the end. I read a lot of articles online about ethics, healthcare issues, and news, which was really helpful for interview questions. I went through my personal activities and thought about what I learned from them and how it applied to medicine, and how to talk about it concisely (which was hard). For critical thinking/ethics issues, I tried to be honest about my limitations and lack of knowledge, and how I would address that. I tried to frame some questions from my own experiences growing up in a low SES family and the hardships we faced, not just in terms of health. I rambled a bit and went way overtime during my actual interview though, and I'm pretty sure I didn't actually finish answering all the interview questions LOL. But I guess it worked out somehow. I started off pretty good, rambled a bit in the middle as I got tired, then ended off okay but not finishing all the questions I think. I don't think I really personally connected with my interviewers or made them laugh, they were pretty neutral for the whole thing. But I overheard them discussing my interview after I had left the room (I couldn't make out actual words of course) and it seemed to be pretty active, positive chatter. So I felt pretty good about the whole thing, like a 4/5. Glad it worked out!
    Year: Graduated, working
    Geography: Non-SWOMEN
Growing up poor and without access to much support or connections, I was never really sure I could get or afford a university education or even be a doctor. When I was finally able to afford university tuition, this made it hard to do well in school and I ended with a 3.5~ cumulative GPA. Nevertheless, I didn't want to give up and after 3 cycles, I'm so excited to hear the good news today. I'm grateful to everyone (family, friends, coworkers, supervisors) who supported me or took a chance on me -- it's been a team effort and I'm excited to give back going forward.
    I've accepted this offer.

Woah, cool coincidence! If you click "Offer," under "Program Code" it should give you a three letter code that represents the campus. Do you know which of the four you most want to go to? Congrats!!

Interview: In-person. I thought it went OK, but I made a minor but tasteless joke about COVID out of nervousness, and I thought for sure that would be a red flag, so I'm happy that they recognized it was just a momentary lapse in judgement. I also shook my interviewees' hands, oops
Year: 4 year B.Arts & Sc, M.Sc. (but first cycle)

Will almost certainly be accepting the offer! I also got into Mac and will probably get off the McGill waitlist, and still waiting on Manitoba/Saskatchewan so I'll take a few days to reflect, but I doubt my decision will change!
