I have a completely different background but similar in the sense that it's not the "usual" pre-med. I think that if you are willing to be open to differences you will find classmates that you vibe with. I think of it as in any social group. You are drawn to certain people - humour-wise, music, work ethic, hobbies.
Plus the shared anxiety of imposter syndrome is a unifying factor!

My lawyer is incredible -- I would trust nobody else to take my case to trial.
(I do a LOT of the leg work myself though. Even a dream lawyer can't devote 24/7 to one client's file...)

I would never sign an NDA with NOSM or with my sexual harasser, so that's not an issue. And I know defamation law inside and out, because three lawyers have already threatened to sue me for libel. I remain unconcerned by their empty threats.
Edit: Yeah, setting precedent for other trainees has been a central consideration in my legal strategy thus far. I'm awaiting decisions on a couple interim motions that could break new ground!

The only way to catch a rat is to shine a light on it. There are many rats here. Unfortunately, without LAO or some deep pockets helping you,  you will be drowned in legal fees. The idea is to sue all the rates, be they individuals and/or institutions, make allegations and if unadmitted, as they will be, to then examine under oath these parties, who need to fear perjuring themselves and losing their liberty and their reputations. This stinks. Publicity is your friend, being interviewed, etc. Rats cannot survive in the sunshine!

Threw about 100k into the stock market (diversified) at the end of March when the market tanked. Split it between TFSA and regular account evenly since i never used my TFSA contribution room. I took a huge risk but I've made huge gains but the market could have gone the other way and I'd be in 100k more debt. I think its up to personal risk tolerance, if you feel you can validate and live with the wins or potential losses, go for it!

I think its Rob Stewart. Just spoke to him. He said it may take 2 weeks to let me know about the approval. Is that usual ?

I'm working with RBC and Rob is setting everything up online for me, but I apparently will have to go into a bank to sign papers- BUT he's sending them to a bank near me, not like a London branch (which is where he is based)

I think you should try a different advisor. That's such a bad deal LOL

They do send a class full email but it's usually sent very late even weeks after the class is full. It's not unheard of for a few (think 1-2) offers to be handed out in late summer for a variety of reasons, but almost all of the spots are filled much earlier.

In the waitlist e-mail, they wrote that they expect all the seats to be filled by August 31. I think that's their way of giving us an official end date for waitlist movement
Last year, someone on this forum said that they were accepted at the end of July so that's another possible endpoint for you
Maybe someone else can chime in if they have any more information.

I think the overall question should be which specialty will allow you to achieve your life goals. Time off is one consideration as I believe a lot of people have lives outside of medicine. Compensation is another depending on how extravagant a lifestyle you want. Some people have material possession goals that may be harder to achieve in certain specialties. Finally, the most important consideration is interest. 40 hours in something you hate will seem a lot longer than 60 hours in something you love. It's not hard to find people who hate their jobs in medicine despite everything looking rosy from the outside. As an example, I would personally find Derm awful as I hate skin pathology but I probably would be fine with PHPM as I always enjoyed system level problems in medicine.

My friend did this latter situation - matched to a GTA city actually not even rural. Did absolutely nothing EC, Research etc. Took family medicine electives in 4 year. Got 3 references. Matched to top choice

I see it as both tbh  Saddened to not be able to do the internships I wouldve wanted to do (and lets be honest, good to add to your resume/CV) but also feel a bit disappointed to not be able to have much fun, go to restaurants... But this is true for anyone, med student or not.

Summer is never wasted. Throughout med school, summer was strictly for relaxation. I now will need to wait until retirement to do this again, so take full advantage of your summers for R&R.

Hello all! I'm exploring options for part-time work during my earlier years of medical school. I would prefer something flexible and online...
I know that some work for the application companies, but I am hesitant to apply to one of the large ones that charge students thousands of dollars for their services. Does anyone know of a small student-run application company that charges students very reasonably? I remember vivo mentor was a great one that was up and coming a few years ago, but it seems like it is not running anymore or has been rebranded to something that I cannot find easily through google.
Other recommendations beyond the application companies are welcome as well!

Honestly may be better to work on improving core and lower back strength. It improved EVERYTHING for me (standing, sitting etc).

This is actually something I'm doing this summer Working with a physiotherapist on this topic (I'd highly recommend others invest in themselves like this). We can't avoid prolonged sitting in school, but we can still minimize the harms it entails.
I still thinking a mix of laying down, sitting, and standing would be optimal. A standing desk is something on my mind too....

dooogs reacted to Sweesy in Windsor vs London stats
    Hey,

So I will be attending Windsor this upcoming fall, and am really excited.

I have been wondering about how Windsor grads compare to London grads when it comes to scores, and placements. Does anyone have an official source that compares the two, that they wouldn't mind sharing with me?

    Thanks!
