Congrats!!! Thank about this. What is the end point? Literally nothing (maybe retirement if that's something you look forward to). You will be a doctor all your life!!! like another person said - it's a rounding error.

Nope! They've been talking about getting us back in observerships before we're allowed to congregate in groups again for class. I believe it has to do with the availability of PPE at the observership and the fact that we wouldn't be allowed to have 100+ people in a lecture hall even if we wanted to due to gathering restrictions. Honestly I didn't really catch all the details of why because I was very excited when they told us observerships would possibly be opening back up.
I think going with roomies would probably be a smart choice, even if only for the year. Of course you'd have to work out between all of you how things would work if you were travelling back and forth from your family homes but many of our classmates have roomies so definitely something a lot of people are working on rn.

Same question... I'd rather commute if we only have 1 or 2 days in person

Idk If this is a weird q but would we be required to move to London/Windsor for the fall term if the majority of classes/small group learning is held online? Even if they allow us to do the more hands on learning components once or twice a week in person, would they tell us if we had to move or if we could drive up for those events if that’s possible for us? I understand this isn’t possible tho for OOPs and those who live super far away. Ugh this is all so confusing!

Oof I guess I should've posted first semester - good call! In all honesty foundations of medicine had been wiped from my mind LOL. Just for Windsor friends - your ISGL will always be on wednesday 1:30-3:30 no matter what group you're in, and your PCCM will always be on Thursday 1:30-4:30, except for two groups that are on Friday instead.
Also forgot to mention - keep an eye on your email inbox because admin gave the OCos a heads up that you'll be receiving some more info soon.

@dooogs @Galaxsci Thanks for the responses! Going through mechanical/biomedical engineering felt like an unnecessarily hard path for medicine, but its nice to see that there may have been some benefits for the specialties that I'm considering

For a bunch of reasons I would say definitely yes - it would be odd to lose some one post acceptance. If you did they could be from either campus. If they were assigned to London then at best case a single person would be bumped to their preference from Windsor. There are 38 people going to Windsor - it seems very likely most of those people originally wanted London - particular from how vocal people are this year about this - so at worst the odds if someone dropped I suppose would be 1/38 chance of being bumped (it isn't because some people do want Windsor but that is the upper bound). Objectively this all combined is a really small chance - the odds of someone dropping, that they are at London, and you happen to be the the next in line.
I will add again that Windsor is a great branch of the school - really is. People may have other reasons to prefer a particular city, location etc - of course that is fair - but don't doubt the school itself.

Hey! I'm also a Windsor campus student and wanted to tell you a bit about my experience this year. I'm originally from the GTA and moved to Windsor last year. I had some extremely unforeseen medical issues come up this year and I can't even put into words how much support I received from everyone at the Windsor campus. The small class size means you almost automatically have 38 new friends rooting for you and the admin at the Windsor campus knows everyone personally by name. I had to commute back to the GTA for appointments and everyone went above and beyond to accommodate any needs I had. I know moving away from your support system is hard, but trust me you will be extremely well supported on the Windsor campus!
@CHG is the go to person for any Windsor campus questions!! I just wanted to add that there are a lot of really unique opportunities you get on the Windsor campus as well. Due to the small class size and because there aren't a lot of residents in Windsor you have the opportunity to get a lot of hands on clinical learning starting from first year. Becoming an executive member of interest groups/clubs is also much easier on the Windsor campus since we have less people and all the same positions! You also get to know the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years pretty well which is so helpful especially when you have questions about CaRMS, clerkship, etc. Also, the physicians who teach small groups, clinical skills, etc. get to know us all personally and are always inviting students to do OCLOs (observerships) with them. Every physician I have interacted with in Windsor loves to teach and make themselves available to answer questions pretty much whenever you need help. Windsor really is an awesome place to attend medical school and whether you are in London or Windsor you will get a great education (and meet some great people along the way!)

I’m so sorry you guys didn’t get your first choice.  Hopefully that doesn’t take too much away from the fact that you are going to medical school in the fall, and you never know you might still get an London offer later in the summer or in June. I don’t want to plant false hope but you never know. I have my fingers crossed for you guys

I definitely had a momentary freak out reading these replies and started downward spiraling (less than 38 seats ) but I’m trying to keep hope by reminding myself that this probably happens every year. More people are posting on this forum this year for western (65 people posted they were accepted versus last years 18) so we are probably just seeing more of the “process” this year as people post what’s happening with their specific application
thats what I’m telling myself at least

Hey don't worry about your research! I have several research projects going on in London right now that (prior to covid) I was just travelling up to London on some of our Tuesdays off and doing the rest remotely! I established those WHILE I was in Windsor. Most supervisors would rather keep a student they know and work remotely then figure out something new. Don't give up on that.
