Just some hope to you guys, I was accepted off the waitlist 3-4ish weeks after acceptances were sent out.
I personally would have used casper scores in lieu of a lottery, but I am sympathetic to their comments about biases in video chat. Even zoom/facetime can get stuttery at times, and then you're going to be biased again people who can afford faster internet or nicer webcams - even mac pros from 2 years ago have relatively crappy webcams. I know other schools successfully did it, but you're just trading one potential issue for another. Imagine if your connection dropped out in the middle of your interview, you were able to connect but it disrupted the flow, and then its over - if you weren't accepted you would never know if it was you or the connection problems got in the way of a good impression. At least with a lottery you're either in or have a chance to interview next year.
I think first round offers are 90 ( taking away quarms and indigenous applicants) out of 500 interviewed. ~20% chance
And historically they offer to 190 or something by the end. So there are about 100 waitlist offers out of at most 400 people. Since some people are rejected and some remove themselves from the waitlist, it’s definitely more than 25% chance
(idk if they over offer... if they do then I’m not sure)
I will be declining the offer in favour of Ottawa! I have nothing against McMaster, it's just that I would like a chillaxed pace of a 4 year program. I hope this opens up a spot for someone in the waitlist! Keep your heads up
I don’t really understand their reasoning either... honestly I would greatly appreciate any additional information on waitlist size or location! I feel like as long as you ask Wendy nicely, it can’t hurt.
Hey all, got an offer from my IP school so will be declining my Mac offer. Best of luck to you all and please don't let anyone take the joy of getting an acceptance to med school away from you, regardless of how you got it!
