SmallTownGal got a reaction from futuredr__ in UOttawa Medical School Accepted/Waitlist 2021
Late adding this, but for stat purposes:
Time Stamp: 8:40 am EST
Result: Accepted
GPA: 3.94
Stream: English
Year: Finished MSc in the fall
Interview Thoughts: Mixed feelings. Some parts felt okay, but there were a few questions where the interviewers had to interrupt to rephrase so that I understood correctly. All to say that how you think it goes isn't necessarily a good representation of how the final results will play out!
Will be declining my offer in favour of another school. Good luck to those on the WL!

SmallTownGal reacted to shikimate in Rank the 4 years of medical school from easiest to hardest
1st (easiest) > 4th > 2nd > 3rd
1st (easiest):
you feel like a million bucks going to medical school,
spend the summer lounging and dipping in a pool;
white coat ceremony you feel ever so blessed,
smile for camera because you are sharply dressed.
banks eager to loan you 250K at less than prime,
no longer rely on ramen counting nickels and dime;
no need to aim for 4, because courses are all pass or fail,
fancy yourself high class reading "Desire Caught by the Tail".
4th (not bad)
fall of 4th year is a hectic and busy with electives,
going new places and taking staff's stupid directives;
feeling good you're gonna match to your first,
hiphop to the hospital feeding that energy burst.
come carms panic set in and not feeling so hot,
worry not match, unemployed and you'll go rot;
match day, and you get your second prize,
hey, at least my debt is only half your size.
2nd (so so):
excitement of first year is already wearing thin,
write a research paper only to throw it in the bin;
do observership and feel like senior resident's tool,
have no answer to the questions and look like a fool.
go on vacation this summer and LOC is getting tight,
can't repay, you know who'll call you day and night;
how come everyone else know what they'll do?
not match, and my pants will be soiled by poo.
3rd (worst):
first day at the hospital don't know where things lie,
hyperventilate at arounds feeling you are gonna die;
get asked to name 20 diseases, you can only name seven,
the other 13? they are named after guys already in heaven.
try to set up electives at some distant faraway land,
COVID hit, and they might as well chop off my hand;
finally finished calls and clerkship is coming to a close,
better ace my electives or gonna regret the life I chose.

If you want to go to Dal you can just pay your deposit (I did). But if like some others (especially OOP) are waiting for results from other Med schools, you can wait!

SmallTownGal got a reaction from Malk in Reasons for deferrals
My acceptance letter also said that because of COVID students that were in a graduate program and were not able to finish their degree before the July 31st deadline can apply for a deferral, so there may be more given out this year than usual. I am not sure what they would say in terms of personal/family reasons, but this year is certainly unlike previous ones.

Yeah, you should be ok if you pay the 500 deposit. It is clarified on the website that paying the deposit means the offer is accepted: https://medicine.dal.ca/departments/core-units/admissions/accepted-applicants.html

SmallTownGal got a reaction from MD999 in Accepted/Rejected/Deferred/Waitlisted for Current Applicants
Accepted! - IP (NB)
GPA: 4.0
MCAT: 507
Research-based MSc complete, lots of volunteering, varsity athlete, 10+ years working throughout school.
Congrats to those accepted, and best of luck to everyone else! My last time applying was three years ago and my MCAT was atrocious (496). I completely gave up hope and started looking at other career options. From my experience, the most important part of the process is BELIEVING IN YOURSELF. Set goals, dream big, and be confident!! It wasn't easy, let me tell you, but not much worth celebrating comes easily. Don't give up if this is truly your dream. You got this!

all that to say, enjoy the moment when you finally get that acceptance. if you're anything like me, that will go down as one of the best moments of your life. take care of yourselves today. can't wait to welcome you all into the dal med fam.

It could also be a way for them to cover their bases so if it goes longer they don't have a bunch of people emailing them being like where is it?? I'm hoping it's still going to come during the med March break (15th-19th).
