    1. In pre-clerkship, study just enough to pass exams. There is no difference between the MD who gets 100% on all their exams, and those who just barely pass. There is no way to learn all the material in medical school (it's just too much volume) so focus on whats important for each of your exams and move on. The important information will become clear in clerkship.
    2. Everyone studies different. What worked for you in undergrad may or may not work for you in medical school because of the volume. Be open to adjusting how you learn.
    3. Explore all specialties. Most new medical students seem set on one or two specialties, but really have no idea what those practices actually look like. Even a few half days of shadowing provide little to no insight. Don't rule out anything before clerkship. If you have an inclination you may be interested in something competitive, get involved in those departments (research, clinical activities) early, but just because you do doesn't mean you cant switch and are set on that path. Keep an open mind.
    4. Pre-clerkship is not intense. Don't feel bad about taking weekends off without studying or using a few nights per week to grab drinks with your friends or go out to a patio. Ultimately it's not gonna matter and will benefit your mental health a lot. When you get to clerkship, this becomes more challenging, but you should still never feel guilty about taking time for yourself.
    5. Sleep and eat when you can. In clerkship, be keen, but use your downtime to eat and sleep. Don't be a hardcore gunner and don't feel like you have to say yes to every single clinical opportunity or extra curricular or research opportunity. It may help you, it may not, but what certainly won't help you is burning out half way through clerkship.
    6. Try your best to find a good group of like-minded friends in your med school class who you can vent to and spend all your time outside of medicine bitching about medicine. This is probably the most therapeutic thing.
    7. Don't give up the things you enjoy because of lack of time. It may have to be reduced, but you can still do things you love.
    8. Remember everyone is going through the same thing. No matter how shitty it feels at any one point, you're never alone and it will get better.

    Hope that helps.

Lol. Tbh A longer holdup is actually in everyone’s interests (provided the waitlist movement will be the same as previous years). It gives a longer window for other schools’ waitlist offers to go out, potentially causing some people to withdraw from this one and subsequently create more movement

I see where you guys are coming from. I guess my perspective on this whole thing is if you look at the last gpa accepted in each year tracing all the way back to 2017, people with low 3.9s have been accepted. Last year, it even went as low as 3.89 and stopped right before the next 4.0 rotation ( when it was expected to be less movement last year). So if the trend follows, shouldn't everyone before next 4.0 rotation (i.e. everyone in Bin1) be expected to receive an offer?
I think because of the more reporting this year bin 1 seems extremely large, but I would expect the trends to stay pretty much the same since 2016/2017.

Late adding this, but for stat purposes:
    Time Stamp: 8:40 am EST
    Result: Accepted
    GPA: 3.94
    Stream: English
Year: Finished MSc in the fall
Interview Thoughts: Mixed feelings. Some parts felt okay, but there were a few questions where the interviewers had to interrupt to rephrase so that I understood correctly. All to say that how you think it goes isn't necessarily a good representation of how the final results will play out!
Will be declining my offer in favour of another school. Good luck to those on the WL!

Sorry for responding late to this thread, but I'll add my stats here in case it's informative for waitlist calculations or anyone else applying!
    Timestamp (created): 9:02 AM EST
    Result: WL (good)
    GPA: 3.99
    Stream: English
Year: Just completed 3rd year undergrad
Interview thoughts: I didn't think I raised any red flags, but I seriously rushed through the whole thing. (e.g. they told me to answer in 1 minute because we're short on time, I'd speak at 2x speed and answer in 1.5 minutes...) Still, the interviewers were super nice, and I felt optimistic afterwards!
I received offers from other schools, so even if I'm taken off the WL, I won't be going to Ottawa. Good luck to everyone else waiting, and congrats to all who got in!

My estimate is that the good WL is around 150 people. I say this because approximately 65-75 people probably get in off the good WL every year for the English stream. Assuming all of bin 1 is cleared, that would mean 85-95 people are in bin 1. I added ten because this is approximately how many people in bin 1 can decline a WL offer. Bin 2 would likely have 50-70 people in it to act as a buffer for bin 1. So the conservative estimate for me in 150 people on the English good WL with about half getting offers for the English stream. Again, this is pure speculation on my part, but I believe this is the case.

To those accepted - Congratulations! I’m a graduating fourth-year med student at uOttawa, and absolutely loved medical school there (bit sad it’s over!). You’re in for an exciting journey with a wonderful faculty and “med family”.  if any of you have any questions about the program/school/Ottawa and/or are deciding between schools, feel free to reach out.
To those on the waitlist - my fingers are crossed tight for all of you! There is historically a lot of waitlist movement, so I hope that good news is coming your way! It is a huge accomplishment to have gotten to this point.

    Result: FINALLY Accepted
    Timestamp: 8:04 AM EST
    wGPA/cGPA: 3.98
ECs: Research heavy (awards, scholarships, no significant pubs), distress centre, homeless services, health unit work, sports, marathons, started a delivery service for Covid19 at risk populations
Essays: Wrote too many essays throughout the years. Tried to make these easily digestible so whoever was reading them would come across this and thank me for making it easy to read :-)! Add personal experiences x100.
Interview: This one felt amazing. Could not have left my room feeling better (was fist pumping after). But also felt terrible after Western and indifferent after Toronto so your feelings do... not really matter unless they're extremes imo.
    Stream: English
Year: 2 year post undergrad :-P
    Geography: IP
Not sure where I will be accepting as I have Toronto, Western and still waiting on BC! There's hope after 3 cycles big yikes y'oll!

    Time Stamp: 8:20 am EST
    Result: Accepted
    GPA: 3.97
    Stream: English
Year: Graduated and working for several years
Interview Thoughts: I had really mixed feelings after this interview. I felt pretty bad about my response to one of the questions, most I felt okay about, and a few I felt fairly good about. But I also definitely looked back and cringed about some of the things I said. I prepared for about 2 months by practicing with others and getting their feedback several times per week.
Congrats to everyone else with acceptances! And good luck to those on the WL. I will most likely be declining this offer for Mac or U of T, so I hope someone on here gets my spot.
