I appreciated the Q&A opportunity! Frankly, compared to McMaster’s Applicant Cafe, I felt much more interested and inspired by their sense of camaraderie and community. I also got the sense that UofT is best if you want to work in Toronto long-term. Since I’m open to working outside of Toronto, I don’t feel UofT’s curriculum is necessarily superior to McMaster in terms of research. Right now, I’m debating just UofT and McMaster, less so Queen’s. Thanks for reading my long thoughts. Happy to hear yours!

Has anyone had any luck finding an OT Facebook group for Western? I'm looking to move out to London and would love to hear from people who are taking OT as well and living there/planning on moving there.

Does anyone have any insight on the availability of pediatric placements in the Ontario schools? I’m super interested in working with kids with autism so wondering if one school has more potential for peds placements than the others?

Congrats to everyone on your acceptances! I am currently on the SLP waitlist for Western... I have heard it is pretty common for people applying to PT/OT to also apply to SLP/AUD programs so I wanted to reach out and ask if this is the case for any of you? Just wondering if we could see any movement on the waitlists if some of you got SLP/AUD acceptances but were holding out for PT/OT acceptances

I’ve just accepted my offer to western OT and was wondering if there’s any Facebook groups out there to join as I am looking for a place to live in the fall!

This sounds like a difficult decision but both options sound great! To me it sounds like the main difference might be patient/client interactions, and so making the choice would depend on what your long term goals in relation to that would be, but I guess even that depends on the type of research that you're doing. There is potential for you to re-apply and start the program later if you decide in a couple years that you would still like to do it.
Wish I could be more helpful! Good luck deciding!

That's amazing, congratulations!! As of right now I think I'm leaning more towards Queens. I'm actually from London and kind of want to get out of the city and experience new things. However if I went to western I could live at home and save money and I already have lots of connections here which is tempting me to stay. I went to McMaster for my undergrad and my research supervisor teaches there so I can tell you the faculty are amazing and the school is beautiful. Hamilton has lots to offer in terms of living (great food scene and lots of hiking trails), and I belive rent is cheaper in Hamilton than London, if that makes a difference for you. London is a great city to live in as well and Western is an amazing school. Good luck with your decision!

I got accepted into OT for Queens but I am debating whether to accept or not. I was offered a full time permanent job as a research coordinator (managing all facets of a study) at one of the top research institute in Ontario.
Pros of this job: stable, permanent, benefits, growth opportunities, working in healthcare along physicians and making contributions towards the future of healthcare-- and right out of undergrad a really good position to be in.
OT obviously has many pros as well and it was something I wanted to do undergrad. Im just on the fence because I know how hard it is to secure a full time permanent position esp during COVID Era. But I'm not sure if I should give up going to OT school for this?
Any advice would be appreciated.

SLP is great, a friend is in this program and is enjoying it very much. She said it is extremely rewarding- interesting and more! Plus an added bonus is at the end of it the job pays extremely well! Goodluck with your choice I wish I thought of this career sooner!

I wish I had the requirements for SLP, it sounds like such an amazing profession but I had my heart set on OT and my undergrad being only 3 years I didn't have much leeway. Either one you choose will be absolutely amazing, they're both great professions! I hope someone on here can help you out or give you any direction because I wouldn't be 100% sure either!

Is there a facebook group to join to Western (OT)? I might've missed it but I couldn't find any yet

I know everyone is really nervous about the decisions that are about to come out. Just know if you don’t get accepted, it doesn’t mean you aren’t smart and it doesn’t mean you should give up! It’s a very competitive field!
