  2. Hi everyone! I was just wondering if theres any time off between clerkship and residency? If not typically, is there a way to take time off between the two in order to gain some life experiences (travel, volunteering etc)?
  3. I'm a female MS3 interested in OBGYN, but worried about the lifestyle and work-life balance. My main interests are Obstetrics (clinic, deliveries) and Gyne (clinics, procedures). How do I approach the issue of the busy and difficult schedule of an OBSGYN vs the desire to have more than sufficient time for family and eventually kids where I could be involved fully in their lives without stressing to find time.
  4. Hey everyone. I am a fam med resident and am looking into some high-yield extra training to do before I graduate. In a perfect world, it could be done online, is inexpensive and provides a certification at the end that I can put on the CV but any recommendations that meet all, any or none of these would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this has been asked before but new courses are popping up all the time. Thanks!
  5. Hi, I'm a second year medical student. I've heard about Return of Service contracts for CMGs who do their residency in Quebec, but have done their medical school elsewhere in Canada. I'm interested in a specialty that doesn't have many residency spots, so the ones available in Quebec interest me (I speak French), but I'm concerned that I may be forced to stay in the area for years afterwards. I've looked online but couldn't find a good source on this topic. Does anyone have any information on this (or is it even true)? What are the contract's terms and penalties? Are there similar contracts in
  6. Can anyone comment on the options available to them for mortgages during residency? The rent-vs-buy debate aside, has anyone explored the options through the big banks or brokers? I'd be particularly interested to know how pre-existing debt on a med-student line of credit affected your options (size of the mortgage, ability to go with a mortgage broker vs. having to stick with the institution providing the LOC) Thanks!

  10. Hi Everyone! I'm currently in BioSci at University of Calgary. This is my first year. I am deciding to go to a university outside of Canada for medical. In Pakistan there is a university : Punjab Medical Colledge. For foreigners, the requirements are to complete high school and have done SAT 2 Subject tests for some courses. I want to go abroad, because the long tie limit to complete medschool here is a concern for me. So, I have decided on two options. 1) Apply to to Punjab Medical College since it only takes 5 years to complete medicine there.

  17. Hey folks! So I'm currently a 4th year medical student from the UK. Medicine is a 5 year undergraduate course here so I'm only 21 and haven't yet graduated - 2 more years left though (including this one) woo! Following this, I'd do 2 years of residency in the UK ideally before choosing any specialty. I'm currently looking at my future options, one of which is to work in Canada. The only information I know about the medical boards is through all the official information websites - none of which are THAT helpful. So I was wondering if someone here could help me? When is the bes

  21. Edit: I'm leaving this my posts here, but please skip ahead to my post #29. Do you think there's a specialty that is more geared/prepared to deal with biohacking? By biohacking I mean the sort of stuff that Tim Ferris, Dave Asprey, and Ray Kurzweil practice.
  22. I noticed some schools suggested a visual acuity score of 20/20 was recommended for their residency program (on CaRMS program description). How important is this (in terms of getting into the residency and practicing as an ophthalmologist)? Do ophthalmologist generally not wear glasses?

  24. Hello, I am wondering what lifestyle looks like for family medicine students through medical school and residency. Up until recently, I thought the 80-hour/week, nights-on-call lifestyle was during residency only and that clerkship (3rd and 4th year) consisted of more "normal" hours hahah! I now realize this is a misconception and it sounds like at most Canadian med schools, 80 hours a week and night shifts start in 3rd year. Does this mean 4 years of sleep deprivation and excessive hours even for students going into family medicine? More people seem to be choosing the FM route because they
