A question for anyone who can provide advice: I happened to receive a significant scholarship yesterday for placing the top female/male of my class for clerkship year and I've applied for a specialty that I think values academic achievements more than others (for eg, Ottawa rads asked for a breakdown of med school marks and not just the P/F). Any advice on if/how I should include it in my post-carms application? I've been told to add a "note" on the carms application site that would send the note to all the programs, but I worry that it may be taken as bragging or too assertive. I've also been

I'm a first year resident and feel I've made a mistake in picking my residency. Although I enjoy much of the day to day work, I don't know about the fit long term and lifestyle wise. I had considered path in medical school and did an elective late in my last year of med school. Although I thoroughly enjoyed it, I ended up not applying and matching to my first ranked program. I know that PGY1 year can be taxing, but I find myself drained and burnt out. I've been thinking about the possibility of switching for a little while now, but haven't brought it up to anyone in person or spoken

Does anyone know how repeat years are being considered in residency applications? Is it better to skip the match process this year, do a master's then reapply? Thanks!

So Mac is 3 years, no summers, plus a bit shorter on the clinical side. I was wondering if it this was a huge disadvantage in terms of getting competitive specialities? For one, we have a lot less time to do some research. Also, no summers might be a disadvantage for travelling to bigger cities (i.e.: Toronto) and meeting with program directors there. Can people chime in on whether or not it's harder to get competitive specialties from McMaster?

Hey folks, My cousin is an ophthalmology resident and he helped me get involved in the field quite a bit during undergrad. I was wondering how much is required to get into the residency? I've done 3 year research project with his former supervisor which I'll present at the COS conference, went to Ghana for Unite for Sight, chaired an organization that provides visual acuity exams for children (mostly on raising awareness of local services, not diagnostics) and now we will be conducting an ophthalmic outreach in the inner-city this summer. I'm not sure if that is a strong enough start or ho

Hi, My question is does doing a Masters program (1 or 2 years) count as being full-time? I read in some places that you can be full-time and other places half-time for Masters. Sorry I have searched this a lot and haven't found a solid answer. I'm only recently looking into graduate options prior to medical school. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks
