  6. Hello everyone, I am curious if dental school students use the tool Anki to study? I know its very popular in medicine, but not sure if it is also in dental school. If so, I would love if anyone has any resources for school-specific (U of T preferred) Anki decks. Thanks!

  8. Hi everyone! I posted on the "What are my chances.." thread but had not gotten any input or advice for my stats. I just wanted to post again and see if anyone had any opinions on whether I should re-write the DAT this November, I'm just having a difficult time figuring out what to do especially since a lot of folks have higher stats (scrolled through the DATCrusher FB group and was definitely in awe of all the scores posted). Last cycle (2020-2021) I got an interview for UWO and got wait-listed (I don't think the list will reach me). I also just finished up my 2 yr course-based masters in July. Here are my stats: DAT: 21 AA, 20 RC, 21 PAT GPA: ~87-88 for best 2 years, and 3.9 for undergrad + masters EC: many school clubs, non-profit volunteering, research, but minimal shadowing I was wondering if with these stats I'd have a chance at UofT or UWO? Any help would be appreciated! I am very desperate for a second opinion
  9. 8 Years ago I went to university full time for a year, got pretty bad grades (including 1 failed class). Now I just finished my second year of undergrad a second time with a perfect 4.0 so far. Out of the Med Schools around me (Western, McMaster, uoft) how would they all look at this. Would they even require / know about this year? I know Western takes your best 2 years which would give me a shot, but how about the other two schools? Would they take those courses into the equation? Unfortunately even if I continue a perfect 4.0 throughout all 4 years I will be stuck with a 3.5 - 3.6 GPA which probably isn't good enough to get in from what I've seen.
  10. Hello! The new residency/med school term is starting soon and this unit is perfectly situated in a convenient downtown location! We are looking for a 12 month lease, and the unit is available immediately. Price and terms are negotiable (please DM me). I have a 1 bedroom, 1 bedroom condo for lease in a very convenient location in downtown Toronto. It is located right across the street from Toronto General Hospital, as well as several other downtown hospitals and clinics. The unit itself is unfurnished, and quite spacious, approximately 600ft with a balcony. It has en suite washer and dryer which are brand new, as well as a dishwasher and microwave. The unit includes utilities, aside from cable/internet, as well as 1 locker. Parking is available in the underground garage, although it has to be arranged through building management. Typically it is $100/or so, much cheaper than most parking garages and outdoor parking. The building itself has great amenities, including a fitness centre, game and party room, indoor pool and sauna. There is 24 hour security on site, as well as a superintendent on site. I myself lived here during residency, and it is a very safe building, and very conveniently located to all of the downtown hospitals, and close to TTC lines, grocery and shopping centres. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions!
  11. Alright, thought I'd get the ball rolling on this year's thread Anyone have any info on the UofT waitlist? Number of people that get in? Waitlist size? When we can expect to hear back? If anyone is planning on declining their offer feel free to post here as well!
  12. I'm an incoming 2T5 student an am wondering if they're any upper year WB or Fitz students who would be willing answer some questions about WB or Fitz since academy selection deadlines are coming up. Thanks in advance!
  13. Ive just graduated from my undergrad in Alberta with an Okkk GPA.. around 3.7 (first few semesters of undergrad were pretty rough since I prioritized sport but eventually got on the deans list and graduated with honours). I have 2 years of research experience, a co author publication coming in the fall, travel experience, and competitive sport background. I am due to take my MCAT this fall and I have recently been presented with a unique opportunity from a previous research supervisor to do a funded masters at UofT starting this September (most likely on the topic of cardiac oncology). I originally planned to take the MCAT, apply to Canadian med schools, then take the GAMSAT (Australian med school test) and apply to Australian med schools. However, this has definitely shaken up my original plan. A part of me wonders if my EC's and a great MCAT score are enough to get an interview... another part of me wonders if I need that masters/experience to help me be a more competitive applicant not only for med school but potentially residency. I am also curious as to which medical schools will take into consideration my Masters and put me in this rumoured "separate pool of applicants" A large con I have to accepting this masters is that if I don't perform well on the MCAT this fall... I will have to wait until after my two year masters to retake the test! Would appreciate any insight and advice
  14. Hi all, I was hoping to apply to a PT or OT grad school in the future and I'm currently enrolled in an anatomy course that I ended up failing the midterm for and now it's likely I won't do as well in the course or even pass the course. I have the chance to withdraw from my course right now with the W but would this option be better to take right now than a bad grade? How would a W (especially in an intensive anatomy course), look for grad school admissions to PT/OT?
  15. Hello everyone I need help choosing a university that will offer me better opportunities for grad schools. I'm hearing so much different things from everywhere, so I thought i'd ask here. I was wondering which program/university of these would be better for med school in terms of networking, opportunities (research/volunteer/clubs), gpa? They both seem to have their pros and cons, but I am stuck between them. Thank you so much, in advance! ---- Both will cost the same for me in the long run and I'm going to have to get some part-time jobs near the universities to help me pay for tuition and bus fees. General: do researchers care about which university you go to when you apply to do research with them? (i.e. is prestige worth something?) ----- uOttawa: -health science seems to be helpful in terms of the gpa aspect -biomed seems to fill more prerequisites -i need to know more because not many people talk about it—why? UofT life sciences: -utsc: smaller class sizes but smaller campus and not all courses would be here, but seems to be better for high gpa than utsg -utsg: more opportunities than utsc -overall hard (but aren’t all universities hard? So how does this difficulty compare to mcmaster for example? Are the profs purposefully making tests harder, do they not teach well so the self learn is getting to people, is curving down a thing?)
  16. Hi guys, I am an inetrnational stduent at UofAlberta and I have a GPA of 3.8. I am wondering if there is any chance to be invited for an inetrview at UofT? I have 2 summers of resaerch experince with 2 resaerch paper published as a first author, a thesis proejct from my undergard honors degree and a interdisciplinary ledaership certificate from U of Alberta, 200+ hours of public leadership experince, have done multiple jobs during my undergard (300 hours as an peer tutor + 800 hours retail job + 400 hours of admin and aide job at physiotherapy clinic), additionally around 300 hours of religious/community work. have around 7-8 reaserch funding and scholarships. Does these make me competetive even though i have low GPA? appreaciate the feedback
  17. Hey everyone! I'm in my 5th and final year at Carleton studying HBSc. Neuroscience and Mental Health. I'll be graduating this year with a 3.2-3.3 gpa. I was looking into doing a second undergrad degree that will last 2 years. I've applied to UTSC health policy but I'm also looking for some other programs that will last the 2 years and would be a bit easier to get a good gpa in, please let me know of any suggestions. Thanks in advance!!

  19. Currently a grade 12 student in Vancouver BC. I’ve applied to Calgary, Toronto and UBC for kin. I’ve been accepted to both Calgary and Toronto but am still waiting for UBC. But at this point I feel like my chances of getting into UBC are pretty slim even though it’s my first choice as admissions is ending soon. My goal is to get into med school one day and I’m hoping for some advice as to which program would give me a better chance to achieve my goal.
  20. Hi everyone :) I'm a student from one of the prairies schools applying to IM this cycle. i was lucky to get some interviews including uoft and ubc (my top choices). I've never been to vancouver or toronto but I heard things about each city from residents. I really want to move out of the prairie for this next chapter of my life but im having a hard time deciding between these two schools in terms of ranking. Could you guys share anything you know about each program? I heard that uoft is notorious for being service heavy and not too collegial - but I also heard that it's easier to get into uoft sub-speciality if you do your residency there. Not too familiar about UBC but apparently it's service heavy too. Also the match rate for its residents was really bad this year..yikes Thnx!
  21. I was just recently informed + saw on the UoFT Dentistry Admission site that anyone who is applying for the 2022 cycle and onwards are required to take the Manual Dexterity section of the DAT (it is no longer optional). I was surprised because I was planning to apply within this year/next year and now I guess I need to take the DAT including this section? Any thoughts & any tips from anyone who has done the MDex portion of the DAT?
  22. Hi guys! Congratulations to those who got in! For those who got waitlisted and got rejected, it's not the end! Just curious about the stats this year so please feel free to share if you feel like it! Include your (1) DAT SCORE including AA and PAT, (2) GPA with lowest year dropped, and (3) Year / whether or not you took Masters.
  23. Hello everyone, Anyone willing to review my OMSAS ABS & UofT Essays (BPEs & ABS statements)? An accepted/interviewed UofT applicant is preferred, but I would be grateful if anyone else can too! Thanks
  24. Thought I'd start a thread for all things wait list. Anyone know how roughly how many people are on the wait list/how many make it off?
  25. I've heard that ECs are not really looked at by U of T, but to what degree? I have some community volunteering and am an executive on some clubs, but I have no research nor publications. I don't know what the application process for U of T is like. If their personal essays ask what you've done during undergrad, doesn't that technically mean they count ECs? Do they ask about shadowing? Or, are these all helpful for you at the interview stage? This seems like such an obtuse question but I could really use some guidance.
