  1. My overall GPA is only a 79 currently in 3rd year but I have an upwards trend from 72 -> 77 -> 82 -> 86%. I failed math in 1st year and decided to stick with the 4 courses per term (non full load). Regardless of MCAT score, I feel like I would not be competitive due to a low GPA and not taking a full course load. I can take a full course load in my last year, but should I even bother with taking the MCAT, my chances for UBC or oop seem really low. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  2. Hey guys, I'm completely new to the MCAT preparation and was wondering if anyone would give bit of guidance as to where I should start. How long do people usually prepare for prior to the exam? Any recommendation for the studying materials? (ex. if books, the company/year) Are classes/courses recommended? Thank you!
  3. I did the MCAT twice. First time was a complete failure, second time is a bit better but not by much, and I dont know if I have to retake it. Scores first time (2015): Chem/Physics - 130 CARS - 125 Bio - 127 Psych - 124 Total - 506 Scores second time around (2016): Chem/Physics - 128 CARS - 127 Bio - 131 Psych - 125 Total - 511 My GPA is around 3.8 and I want to apply to american MD and DO schools. Should I retake the MCAT?
  4. Hi, I posted this question in the general discussion topic yesterday, but I didn't realize there was a separate section for Ontario schools. Hoping to get a few more opinions. I hope it's okay if I double post, my bad if its not allowed. Apologies in advance for the long post. I'm super confused about what to do and don't know anyone IRL who can help. As the title suggests, I'm currently considering a few options for my application into med school. Here are my stats: UofT - 3.7 OMSAS cGPA, 3.85 Omsas cGPA last 2 years. MCAT:: 130/129/131/128 total= 518 Some Major EC: 2 hospita
  5. This set of Examkrackers MCAT, 10th Edition books is in very good condition (9/10) - these are the newest version of the Examkrackers set! The books are in great condition because I only read the books for several hours - and then I decided that MCAT science was too challenging for me... There were some light pencil marks on a few pages in total (at most 20 pages), which have since been for the most part erased. There are absolutely no markings on the pages with quizzes or exams, and there are no pen or highlighter markings anywhere in the books. The pages and the corners of the pages
  6. Apologies - I missed the previous post where I had asked this question prior to receiving stats. I have a score between 510-512 and am wondering if I should re-write. IP GPA: 83.** AQ: 20.** NAQ: 34.** MCAT: 510-512 Int: Avg I am anticipating seeing an increase in my NAQ for the 17/18 cycle and by the 18/19 cycle my AQ will also increase a bit (taking courses this year). At this point, with the course plans I have, I'm not sure I can make the late August cut off for MCAT scores (but maybe could with a fire under my butt)... And I'm quite worried about the possibility of sc

  8. Hey guys! This is a bit of a long post but it's my first time posting here and I wanted to be thorough, really just looking for some honest feedback as I am new to the pre-med thing I have only recently made the decision to try for medicine, and I just registered for the MCAT. Having not done a science degree I am wondering whether it is even worth it for me to dedicate my whole summer if the rest of my application wouldn't stand a chance but makes me feel hopeful even in spite of my average GPA and lack of sciences...But I'm worried it may not even be that great compared to most applica
  9. All my marks have been fine so far from A- to A+ for first year, but I got a B+ in one of my half year courses, and I know it's not the end of the world, but it has been bothering me, and I'm a little worried!! As long as I do much better in my second year, I just hope I still have a good chance of applying to med in third year, assuming my other stuff like MCAT and EC's is good? I don't know exactly what my current GPA is but I'm predicting for OMSAS it's going to be about 3.8?? I would appreciate it if I could hear about some of your experiences as third year applicants, like what the GPA ex
  10. Hi, I'm currently studying for my MCAT end of April. Is there anyone here who'd be down to form a study group in London?
  11. Hi! I'm in my 3rd year of undergrad at Waterloo and haven't done great at school the first two years. I'm in good academic standing but realizing now that my GPA is terribly low. I've decided I want to try to be a pediatric doctor for personal reasons that have pushed me towards this career. I'm super excited but worried that I wont be able to get in to any medical school. Is there any hope for me? I know I can get a great 4th year GPA (something around 4.0?) but am I too late to the boat? I know people in my previous program started studying for the SATs and MCATs in first year.
  12. Hey there, Quick overview: - 4th year UG - cGPA 3.90, wGPA higher at a few schools - Diverse ECs with quite a few long-term (5+ years) commitments - Had a lot of great feedback on my essays (I got them reviewed by 4 profs) & felt pretty good about CASPER - Applied to Toronto, Queen's, McMaster, Ottawa, Calgary - No interviews this round, looking to reapply next year My MCAT scores (129/128/127/130) were ok, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to re-write to try and boost CARS? Finances are super tight right now, so I don't want to waste the money unless it'll really mak
  13. Hi all, I need a bit of advice on that to do. I have received an interview this year at Ottawa (only one cause i had to rewrite my mcat due to low cars) but am rigorously planning to apply again next year because I dont think my chances are good. I need an opinion on where my highest chances are in Canada / US. My GPA 3.98 MCAT 516- 130/126/130/131 My ECS are above average. this low cars scores has me out of the alberta schools and basically out of mac and queens. But I am afraid of rewriting because i got 123 previously and know I could very well get lower. Do you think I s
  14. Hello, I would like to have your opinion on the differences between the content and presentation/passage type between the prep books for the old MCAT and those for the new MCAT. More specifically, I just ordered a used 8th version (the last one for the old MCAT, I think) of physics Examkrackers for 5x cheaper than the new. Considering that I have a background in engineering, I just wanted a very quick refresh of the important concepts, and I figured that the version didn't matter much. I ordered the new Berkeley Review for biology, chemistry and biochemistry along with the new Princet
  15. Hey guys, I really need some help/tips/advice. Ok so, I wrote the MCAT this september, and I did pretty bad. Now with the sciences, I think I can prepare that on my own, but I really need help with the CARS section. My situation: I got 125 in the CARS section. I will be writing the MCAT again in August of next year. I have 1 year essentially, (I am also doing university this year, full-time; but I will also have the 4 months of summer to essentially work on the MCAT). How should I practice/prepare for the CARS, to make it 128+? Should I be reading a lot? What should I read? Should I
  16. Hi all, so my situation is as follows: cGPA 3.95 for past 3 years since im a 4th year undergrad 512 MCAT with (131,124,129,128) sections are listed in order they appear so 124 is the CARS. I've heard of people getting USMD interviews with scores like 12/7/14 on the old MCAT, just don't know how a 124 in the new MCAT is viewed. decent to average EC's like hospital volunteering, basic research, tutoring etc... Just wondering if I stand a good chance at an interview for USMD even if its a low tier school. Would appreciate any feedback. Also I'm thinking of applying with my score
  17. I have a CARS score of 125 and on overall MCAT 508. My wGPA will be >3.8 and I have great ECs. I'm applying this year, but juts wanted some input from you guys. Maybe there is other ON schools that are better suited for me who don't take CARS so seriously. I know that Queen's process is relatively a mystery (as far as numbers are concerned). Any input would be great. Unfortunately, this was my 2nd MCAT try and so I think this is my true CARS score and can't improve much on it. Thanks.
  18. Hello everyone, I would like to say that I am a non-traditional student but then again, it's complicated. I am an RN in Saskatchewan and I want to go to med school. It has always been my dream to be a Dr. but as an immigrant, I had to get my PR one way or the other to qualify so I decided to study nursing as it a great career that I loved to get into and it was going to help me get my PR faster. After becoming a nurse, i feel like i need to do more which made me start researching med schools in Canada as it was my initial goal. Thing is, I do not have any premed courses (biochem, chem, or
  19. I did an NSERC last summer. I also wrote my MCAT two weeks after my lab work finished. I scored pretty badly because I did not have a lot of time to study (commuting over 3 hr, work). I wasn't very motivated to study because I came home stressed from being in a hostile lab environment; I felt like more of a burden in the lab and as if people didn't want me there as a student. The only reason I'm considering doing an NSERC while retaking the MCAT again is for the valuable research experience and possible connections with a prof. Is it really worth it? Should I just spend next summer solely
  20. im looking into cracking open the MCAT book this summer and was wondering how long you guys studied for? all summer? how many hours a day? any help or pointers to get me on the right track would be helpful! thanks
