I have hopes of attending the University of Melbourne for its DDS program (I am a Canadian citizen). From my current understanding, Australian-trained dentists cannot practice in the States but are able to practice in Canada. I have a few questions regarding this. 1: Why aren't Australian-trained dentists eligible to work in the States, if they are able to work in Canada? Is this because the states have more robust DDS programs/requirements to practice? 2: How can an Australian-trained dentist become licensed in the States? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, Many of you are interested in Australian dental schools and I have noticed there is very little information regarding this topic. In response, I have made a discord for us to meet! If we can build a decent group, we can even practice MMI's together. If we are lucky, we might get some students that are already in the program to give us some advice. If possible, share this to facebook groups and other forums so we can build up our little group! I look forward to meeting you and don't forget to invite your friends! Dental Schools in Australia and Ireland
Diamond posted a topic in Dental Student General Discussions
Hi everyone! I'm doing my undergrad degree at the moment and I'm considering going abroad to study dentistry! I just recently found out that there are some graduate schools in Australia that are 4 years long if you have an undergrad degree (which I plan on getting). I know there has been lots of discussion on this but I wanted to start a discussion about what option is best if I'm interested in in studying abroad and wanting to come back to practice in Canada. I am genuinely interested in studying abroad and I'm not trying to "pay my way through dental school". That being said, my family and I do have the finances for me to study abroad. I have also considered schools in the States but I feel that the problem with US schools is that they have a different standard for each school. I know some schools that don't offer enough practice and students coming back from there have a hard time finding a job with the little experience that they have recieved at that school. On top of that, the exchange rate is quite high and is probably more expensive than schools in Australia and in Ireland (I would imagine). I have heard multiple times that Australia has some of the top rated dental/ medical schools! Is anyone in the same position? I would love to hear some opinions on this! Also, I would love any advice from students who are studying abroad or have come back to practice!- 1 reply

I just got offered a position in the Doctor of Physiotherapy program at Monash University and was wondering if anyone had heard anything or had any experience with physio school?

Hi everyone! I was hoping you guys could help me out. I was successful in securing a seat at a dental school in Australia and am now in the process of trying to obtain a student line of credit to pay for my studies, but I don’t have a co-signer (my credit is excellent though). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it possible to secure a LOC without a co-signer? Many of the major banks seem to offer great options, but they seem to be reserved for students studying dentistry in Canada and/or require a co-signer. That being said, seeing that there is a reciprocal agreement in place between Canada and Australia I’d hope there would be some leeway. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks everyone and good luck!
