  2. CARMS Interview Coaching from a Resident Physician-$60/hour I am currently a second year resident physician with extensive experience in interview coaching, both for CARMS and medical school. I will be providing interview coaching for candidates who were unmatched in the first iteration of CARMS. I can hopefully provide you with practice, feedback and the confidence to match in the second iteration. One of my best friends in medical school went unmatched and it made me realize that an amazing candidate can have a bad string of interviews during a competitive year and end up unmatched aft
  3. Hi everyone :) I'm a student from one of the prairies schools applying to IM this cycle. i was lucky to get some interviews including uoft and ubc (my top choices). I've never been to vancouver or toronto but I heard things about each city from residents. I really want to move out of the prairie for this next chapter of my life but im having a hard time deciding between these two schools in terms of ranking. Could you guys share anything you know about each program? I heard that uoft is notorious for being service heavy and not too collegial - but I also heard that it's easier to g
  4. Hello all, With the logistical nightmare of scheduling all our interviews, I thought it would be useful to start an interview trade thread! To start off, I have a Dalhousie Psychiatry Interview on March 11, 2021 and am looking to switch to a later date (any other date works)!
  5. Hey! I have two paediatric interviews coming up and I would love to practice with anyone else in the same boat! I’m a recently graduated CSA from Europe. Pm me if interested

  7. So, it appears that as of this year(?), family medicine programs will be evaluating applicants based on structured LOR rubrics instead of traditional LORs. A few days ago, a sample rubric was posted on twitter. It was widely criticized for being discriminatory and/or otherwise problematic. In response to the backlash, CaRMS and the CCFP rushed to distance themselves from it. We still do not know exactly who was involved in drafting the rubric, but it appears to be the severely misguided brainchild of the AFMC and all 17(?) family medicine program directors, who have pledged to revise
  8. Hi Everyone, After moving to Canada 5 years ago, I have worked from research to government to hospitals. One year ago, I decided to get into residency and now I have matched. Lots of dedication, money and hard work went into it. Throughout my journey, I have taken notes and highlighted important aspects for residency. There is no one answer for how can I get in. It depends on the circumstances as well as the person. Resilience and perseverance pays in the end. I have seen a lot of people go through years (sometimes 8 to 10 years) of hard work sacrificing friends, family, health and finances.

  10. Hello! I've been researching about some doubts I have about the residency application / match in Canada and couldn't fully answer some of them due to the mixed info on the net. So, applying to multiple specialties will make it harder for me to get a match? Due to such practice being "ill seen", as the programs would not want an "undecided" candidate. What would be the best approach or strategy to increase the chance of a match? My best regards
  11. Hi everyone, I am an IMG and unsure of how to rank programs. What should I look at? I know that IMGs are mostly matched to FM so that is my focus.
  12. Hey All, 'Tis the Season: This thread is strictly for CaRMS interview invitations. Please BOLD new entries and in brackets place the date that the invite was sent so that we can keep track of things easily (ex. General Surgery: Vancouver (Nov 20), Edmonton (Nov 22) ). Best of luck to everyone going through the R1-2019 CaRMS match! *Lets keep this thread strictly for interview related communication if possible* Anatomical Pathology: Anesthesiology: Cardiac Surgery: Dermatology: Diagnostic Radiology: Emergency Medicine: Family Medicine: G
  13. I'm currently a preclerk med student wanting to go into family medicine and looking for advice from upper years/residents on how they have found the FM programs at different schools across Canada for a comparison. Looking specifically to know how competitive, intense, innovative the programs are and what kinds of opportunities are offered. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  14. Hi all I am reposting the thread for posting interview date trade requests (any school or specialty) from last year. I agree that having a single thread for this might make trade requests easier to search for. Please post as per format below: school interviewing at: specialty: current interview date: date would like to switch to: any additional notes:
  15. Hi guys! Much gratitude in advance for the replies/advice/insight! I'm an M3 in Montreal, Med-P background, and only have eyes from Family Medicine. I just wonder too often whether, at this point, I'm strong enough of an applicant? I have no research experience, but do have years worth of community involvement (mostly from before Med-P, about 1 years worth during) and my own health literacy initiative. Apart from this, so far, my clerkship evaluations are good. I plan on pursuing electives that could help me refine skills that would make me a better Fam Doc. I am "well-rounded" with

  17. I’m a USMD applying to Carms for internal med this year. I did 3 months of electives including a CTU elective in Canada. I have 3 solid letters from Canada that I want to use (2 from the same CTU elective plus one from a subspecialty) and one solid one from my home CTU in the US that I’m wondering about. Someone told me that it looks strange if you have no letters from your home CTU. Can anyone confirm this? Any thoughts? I was planning on just using the Canadian ones since my US letter writer won’t have the name recognition here and may not know the vocabulary to use to get the in

  19. I am really having a hard time ranking the family sites, I keep rearranging my top 10 esp with mac, Ufot, and Queen's sites! Would somebody be able to comment on their experiences at any particular sites for those schools such as - Queen's Oshawa and/or Peterborough site! The presentations were amazing, especially Oshawa! - Mac's peripheral sites like Niagra, Halton, Kitchener-waterloo etc. - UofT's newmarket and Barrie, and some GTA non-downtown sites If anybody has any insight or could speak to their experiences in terms of learning to service ratio, customizabil

  23. Hi All, I'm a student in 5th year of Med school studying here in Poland at WUM and I hold a Pakistani Passport. I am aware of the fact that you MUST be a PR holder or have a Canadian Citizenship to be eligible to practice there as there are steep chances for IMG's especially non Canadians. I will be getting engaged in a couple of months and my fiance is studying/working in Canada, He would get his PR soon hopefully. So here my question goes, can I just go to Canada after graduating which will be in 2 years and start preparing for Carms and get a PR in the meanwhile and then apply to resid
