Hello, I am a long time lurker, and this is my first post. I was wondering if my fellow Canadian comrades could post some statistics on their GPA/MCAT/ECs and what US MD schools they're currently attending so I have an idea of the level of competition. Just confirming I am a Canadian CITIZEN. Also, I have the following stats, I would really appreciate some feedback and perhaps recommendations on certain schools that fit my experiences/scores: 516 on the MCAT (129/128/130/129) 3.8 GPA (Perfect GPA last 2 years, how significantly do they care about trends??) ECs: Lo

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you would be able to tell me how post-bacc courses are classified on AMCAS and AACOMAS. Are post-bacc courses lumped together with the rest of an individuals undergraduate courses? Or are they separate from other undergraduate courses taken? If so, does that mean that every course I take after graduating would be considered a post-bacc course? Also, have any of you done a SMP in the states?

I have a Science undergrad. My cGPA is 2.95 for american MD schools, but for D.O. (with repeated courses), my undergrad cGPA is 3.03. I have already started an MBA program*. I was wondering: 1. How do I calculate my GPA for american D.O. and MD schools correctly? I can't find a proper source. (I just used the A = 3.9, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0 , B- = 2.7 ..etc type of method). 2A. Would MBA course grades boost my GPA for D.O. schools? 2B. Would MBA course grades boost my GPA for American M.D. schools? 3. What's the minimum MCAT score you'd say I'd need to give me a fight

Folks, I'm in a state of crisis right now and not sure whether to proceed or not with my plans for career in medicine. A little background first to let you know where I'm coming from. I have two degrees from UofT, BA and BSc. I performed appallingly bad in my first few years at university and finished BA with a GPA of 1.82! I had no idea what to do with myself and had no discipline. That was some years ago. Since then I worked abroad and volunteered in the slums of eastern Africa. It's there that I found a passion for working with individuals on the edges of society and decided to p

Okay I am wondering if it is ever worth going to the Caribbean? I believe I am able to get into school in Canada, and if not then the States as a DO for sure, but I am curious, is it ever worth it to go to the Caribbean? Like for example, if I wanted to become a family doctor would it be suitable as opposed to going there and then hoping to obtain a specialty. I am asking this because I love the Caribbean and although I want to live in Canada when I am older, I believe that I would love living in the Caribbean part-time for school. Please give me advice on this, especially if you go to a Carib

Hi guys, I fortunately secured an DO offer but I am contemplating on whether to accept it or not due to financial and family concerns. According to sdn, rejecting a DO acceptance will significantly diminish one's chance for US MD but I'm wondering if the same holds true for Canadian MD school. Also, if I accept this offer but later reject due to financial problems, would this leave a record on my file? I am in serious dilemma so any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

So here is a little bit of info about me. 3rd year Bsc Major in Bio, minor chem and diploma in forensic science Current gpa: 3.69/4 Possible gpa after I graduate if everything goes as planned: 3.76/4 (or a bit higher) ECS: 2 research jobs, volunteering at the hospital, coaching, studied abroad (paid by my university), part of a sorority, played varsity sport, etc. So I know I'm not competitive in Canada but I was wondering if it would be better for me to apply to the US or Ireland. I know the application fees for the US accumulate quickly. Basically, would I be competitive in th

I've recently received an email from KCUMB inviting me to apply as they would give me fast-tracked admissions decision for 2ndaries, and priority consideration for interview spots and scholarships. I wasn't really aware of DO schools, and didn't apply to any US med schools this year. Currently, I have applied to Canadian schools and I would say my stats are quite mediocre. MCAT: PS 10 VR 10 BS 12 (32) OMSAS GPA: 3.8 last 2 yrs: 3.98 (science GPA would be higher as I have a year of business courses) I'm studying the DAT to take in 3 weeks to apply to dentistry in Canada as an al
