Just wondering if anyone is heading to GCU for OT/PT? Thought it would be a good idea to have a place to ask questions and discuss the process of moving from Canada to the UK!

Hi there, I am starting at the University of Alberta in the fall to study Occupational Therapy. I am from Ontario and won't know anyone when I move to Edmonton at the end of August, so I have been looking for a somewhere that current OT students at UofA could tell me what the program is like, or where would be a good area to live in Edmonton - and where other new students looking for roommates could connect. Please comment if you have any advice, or if you will be joining me at the University of Alberta for occupational therapy!

Hello fellow DAL OT 2018 Prospective Students! Wanted to start a forum to hear about others who are waiting to hear back from DAL OT from the 2018 application process. I did not receive an email of confirming my application was received (dropped off in person), however my DAL online says status incomplete. I'm guessing this is because I am in the process of completing my Anatomy and Physiology prerequisites. Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat or what your status is? Best of luck! Halifax, NS

Calculating sGPA terms?
rjfried posted a topic in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Discussions
Good Evening Everyone!! Happy Holidays! I am just wondering how ORPAS calculates your sGPA depending on terms (spring, winter, fall... the full year..?). I was calculating my sGPA wrong for Occupational Therapy applications. I am not applying next year but will be applying for 2019 entry. I am confused about which grades they will take. I plan on taking alot of courses through Athabasca as my grade in BIOL 235 was NOT good (67%/ 2.3) as i was taking care of some family health issues and it happened to fall almost directly in the middle of my 20 credits. I have looked through the for-

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could shed insight on my chances of getting into an Ontario OT program? I'm really interested in applying, however I'm not sure if I should wait a year to improve my odds if needed, or just go ahead and take the chance! If I calculated correctly, I should have a subGPA of exactly 3.8 (I took a few credits worth of practicum, the experience was great but there were repercussions regarding my GPA as Ontario schools don't take practicum grades). My extracurriculars include 169 hours volunteering with a counselling service, 144 hours of practicum working

Hello, successful UofT applicants! First of all, congrats! I’m sure the last few months of waiting weren’t the least stressful of your life but you’ve made it through. I’m presently an OT1 at UofT and also part of the O-Week Team for next September. With any luck, I’ll be an OT2 by the time you all join us in the Fall. I just wanted to open up this forum an opportunity for newly accepted OT students at UofT to get to know each other a little bit ahead of time and maybe answer a few questions (from a student’s perspective) along the way. After you have accepted your offer letter t

Hello everyone, I had a question regarding the admission process to UBC's MOT program. For those who have been accepted into the program and/or are current/past students, I was wondering what your course load was like in the last two years of your undergrad? I know this is not listed anywhere on UBC's MOT program website, but I have came across some programs in other provinces which state that they prefer students who can demonstrate their ability to manage a full course load. I plan on taking 3 courses per semester for my last two years of undergrad, but am contemplating whether I should i

Hello, I have just completed my fourth year in Molecular Genetics with a cGPA of 3.37. I had a dismal first year (2.67) but I have somewhat recovered my GPA next three years (3.49, 3.57, 3.8 in summer, 3.77, respectively). My dream goal when I entered the university is to go into medicine, but after the horrible first year I had, I knew that wasn't an option. Only viable choice at this point to have a chance at medical school is going for second undergraduate degree, but I am not ready for another 4 years of study that I feel is wasteful (Also unsure on what to do- I don't really have a passio

Hi guys! I received offers from both U of T and U of A but I am torn. For those who chose either U of T or U of A, could you share the reasons why you chose this school? And any differences between these schools? I know U of A is a 26-month program while U of T is 24 months. What should I take into account while making choices? Thank you

I have a sGPA of 3.6 with a Kinesiology degree from Waterloo, what're the chances of getting into OT at Western, Queens, UoT or PT at Queens? I have some experience and pretty good references (acted as a research assistant in a brain and body lab + volunteering at a physio clinic. Please let me know ASAP, I'm not sure if i should take a couple extra courses or not, I appreciate any help given, cheers.

What are your top choices for OT or PT and why? I want to go into OT but the programs seem similar to me in terms of curriculum. Does anyone have any helpful info/links distinguishing the programs from one another and what factors would personally influence your decision to choose one school over another? I've applied to UBC, Queens, Western, UofT, Alberta (all OT), McMaster (OT and PT).

Grade Conversion To Ubc %
OhTea posted a topic in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Discussions
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows how to convert letter grades from Ontario universities to a UBC percentage scale? My school has a 12-point grade scale, so I figured the recent UBC cut off of 82%/A- would simply convert to a 10 out of 12 average. However, that introduces the problem of a 10 being anything from 80-84%, so I was wondering if UBC converts these letter grades differently. Any help is appreciated! -
Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on or experiences with studying occupational therapy abroad? I would love to work in another country, preferably the UK, early on in my career before I come back and settle in Canada. However, I'm not sure how my degree would transfer over, and even if it's a good idea to study something like OT abroad...quite frankly I don't know where to start looking for that information! Hence why I'm here Any help is appreciated!

Hi guys! (sorry in advance for the long-winded post). I'm planning to apply to Dalhousie for OT 2017 admission, however I have to take the physiology (6 credit hours) and anatomy (3 credit hours) pre-requisites in order to apply. I will also apply to a few other schools (U of T/Queens/McMaster) and UBC), however Dal is my top choice (just based on location). Thus, I'm stuck spending this semester (sept 2016) and next (Jan 2017) getting those pre-reqs! I am trying to decide from which online university I should take physiology, as I am having trouble getting into any UVic or Camosun Phy

Hello everyone! Although applications have long been completed, I hope some of you are still active on this board I was just wondering if anyone here went on a study exchange (preferably in the UK) and would be able to share their experiences with the grade conversions either with ORPAS or with other universities outside on Ontario? The UK grade scale is very different from Canada, it's proving to be a bit of a headache! Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, Hope everybody got good news on admissions day! I know the wait for results is nervewracking and deciding where to go (if you were lucky and got into more than one program) can also be difficult. I'm currently a student in the first year of the OT program at U of T and if anyone has any questions about the program, I'd be happy to answer. Also an FYI: I don't come from a science background, so if any non-traditional applicants have any questions/worries (I know that I did last year), I can definitely tell you more about what it's like to enter the program Congratulations to e

Hello everyone, I am a student occupational therapist who will soon be starting a scholarly paper based on the scenario posted below, and I am wondering if anyone might have any suggestions as to possible assessments and interventions (based in explicit theory), or perhaps know of any clinical contacts. Thanks in advance. Susan is a 17 year old girl who was diagnosed at age 15 with multiple sclerosis. She had her first exacerbation 6 months ago and has made minimal progress since that time. She is ambulatory; however, she presents with an ataxic gait. Her standing balance is poor and

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum and I just had a question to ask you guys regarding OT admissions. I found out today that I am number 8 on the wait list at University of Manitoba and I honestly feel so devastated. I was just wondering if there's a chance for me yet to get in for this September with being number 8 on the alternate list. I know there's no way of truly knowing, but do you guys think there's a chance or seen it happen in past years? See the problem is that the email they sent me today said they only have 2 more spots to fill their class of 50 students. This obviously makes me
