  1. Hey all, I'm looking to apply to U of T dentistry. I understand that U of T is able to drop an applicant's lowest year GPA provided that it is not their most recent year. My question is, my first year marks were not great at all, while my second year marks were high. Despite U of T saying they'll drop the lowest year (aka my first year), I can't help but have a fear that my first year GPA will affect my chances. I guess my question is, has anyone been admitted with a high GPA after their lowest year was dropped, despite that lowest year being quite low? I've looked everywhere but I was unable to find anyone in the same boat as me. I'm just so afraid that my first year mistakes will be here to haunt me for the rest of my life. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks, guys.
  2. According to UofT's OT website, they don't have a "cutoff" for OT besides the general GPA requirement. It also seems that so long as you meet the requirement they review your entire application. Here is the information as it states from the website: Is this new? Or is this always how UofT has processed applications? I thought I remembered in past forums people discussing UofT's cutoffs. Can anyone that has applied in previous years shed some light on this?
  3. Hey everyone, I've sort of hit a bit of a roadblock in terms of decision-making moving forward. After a very poor first UG (2.8 GPA), I decided to do a 2nd UG in order to pursue my dream of becoming a physician. I did reasonably well (GPA = 3.7) but I realize that for med school GPAs, this may definitely not be competitive enough. My second undergrad was a full BA in Psychology completed in 2 years with full 30-credit course loads at UBC. Currently, my MCAT scores are (I am registered for a re-write in May and am absolutely confident I can do better than this): CPFBS: 126 CARS: 128 BBFLS: 125 PSBFB: 128 Total: 507 My ECs include: Volunteering/working as a Research Assistant (2 years: 1 abstract, 1 poster, 1 second author publication, another publication in the works) clinical: Hospital Patient Visiting for 2 years Hospital short term care assistant (6 months) community: Peer Counselling/Mental Health Wellness Service (2 years) Alumni Coordinator for my undergraduate society (1 year) Worked as a legal assistant for 1 year Volunteered as a admin assistant for the Cancer Society for 1 year Manager for a contracting firm (work) (1 year) athletics: Captain and Coaching Soccer for 3 years indoor soccer, outdoor soccer, etc. At this point, I was hoping for some advice. I could apply to some schools and take my (slim) chances getting an interview. Or I could go into grad school and complete my MSc in Neuroscience. I already have an amazing supervisor lined up who is begging me to do my grad degree with the lab, but I really want to go into medicine. I enjoy research, but I really miss being able to interact with patients when I'm doing the desk work. Based on my stats, can anyone provide me any insight? Would I be better off doing my Masters and then applying or should I just try my hand at applications with my current background. Any tips are appreciated!
  4. Hi everyone! I wrote my MCAT this summer and did fairly well in all sections (129/130/131), except for CARS (126). The CARS score makes me ineligible for most schools out of Ontario, as well as possibly Western and Queen's, based on their cutoff scores from the old MCAT (though I guess the 10/10/10 cutoff for Queen's is really just rumoured). Does anyone have any feedback on whether the lower CARS score will be detrimental to my application in the upcoming cycle? Any help would be great! Thanks.
  5. Is Western likely to raise the MCAT cutoffs above 9-11-12 (PS-VR-BS) for 2014/2015 non-SWOMEN applicants? I have a 12-11-12 (PS-VR-BS), but I am nervous that they will raise the VR or BS scores again (even though 11 for VR and 12 for BS are both 95th percentile).
  6. Hi everyone, I would be applying for the English stream but I am bilingual (from France). What's the lowest GPA that you know that got an interview as a bilingual applicant to the English stream? Thank you!
