  1. I recently failed a visiting clerkship elective. I'm a new clerk, and was completely caught off guard with the grade as no preceptor indicated that I was on my way to a "deficiency." I thought I had a good rapport with the preceptors and patients, although they did point out that they expected me to have more knowledge in the sub specialty. Honestly, much of what they wanted me to know felt out of scope of my clinical education but I was fine with the somewhat unfair pimping. Otherwise, I thought the elective went fine; I was always early, read around patients, offered to stay late and help -
  2. I'm currently trying to decide between an ICU elective at Dalhousie (Queen Elizabeth II) or U of T (Sunnbrook) in July. Does anyone have any idea which one might be better? My understanding is that Dalhousie might be a smaller centre, and would therefore be better for procedures and teaching time, but I'd love to hear what others would have to say about it.
  3. Hi PM101ers, quick question about booking rad onc electives that I am hoping those of you in residency can answer for me! (or those who matched to rad onc this year, congrats!) If I am 100% set on rad onc and will not be backing up with another specialty, should I do all of my electives in rad onc around the country? Or would it better for me to "round out" my application with electives in something else like med oncology? Thanks in advance for your advice!

  6. Hi guys, I just have a few questions about international electives. Do you think they are worth the money and time? I'm at McMaster so it would certainly be a plus to squeeze in some travelling time during my electives. Also, if anyone has been matched with a CFMS-IFMSA exchange, what was your experience like? Would you recommend it? Thanks in advance!

  19. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could suggest any relatively easy/simple/interesting electives to take for second year? I'm in general Medical Sciences (BMSc) right now, and will be choosing my module at the end of second year. Right now I have 2130 physiology online (1.0), and I'm thinking about doing psych of physical health 2036A and then either 1033B comp sci, or 2060B pharm. Which one between 2060B or 1033B would be a better option? I'm also open to other suggestions, thanks!
  20. Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a 4-week international emergency medicine elective sometime during March 2016 (preferred) or April 2016. I am hoping to get good hands-on experience with lots of learning. Do you guys think it would be most beneficial if I go to an English-speaking country only? I'm worried about not getting a full experience if there is a significant language barrier. I have already looked into South Africa and New Zealand a few months ago and they seem to be full from a while back. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated! T
