  1. Hi! I am a post doc who is hoping to apply to MD schools. What are my chances in Canada/US with my stats? Completed BSc, MSc and PhD, in 1st postdoc. GPA: Undergard GPA 3.2 (first year 3.4, summer of first year 1.8, Second year 2.5, terrible in first semester (1.7) and better in second semester (3.3), summer of second 3.5, third year 3.7, summer of third year 2.7, fourth year 3.8). MSc Gpa 4.0, PhD GPA 3.8. ECs: I have many ECs: clubs, conferences, lectures, speaker/panels, hospital volunteers, RA employment, non-profit, etc. Publications: 15 pub
  2. Hi, here is the breakdown of my situation. I am from Canada and I am 30. - undergrad in an unrelated program (accounting and econ) - worked 3 part time jobs and grades suffered... low GPA - how would I go about financial aid? I do not have a background in science. However, I have always been interested in medicine. I keep seeing the non-traditional student but I don't know exactly what that entails. Would I need to take a post-bacc, but I see in Canada this is uncommon. Would I need to take some pre-requisite courses and how could I increase my GPA or would this not matter
  3. So, I'm a non-traditional applicant with probably little to no chance (hence the username). I'm in my final year and will be graduating with a Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in health and aging from McMaster. Truthfully, I've coasted through university with no direction and my marks reflected this (hovered around a solid B ). When I started university I had just been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and had not been keen on taking my medications (long story short, I developed injection anxiety and had not been on disease modifying medications for upwards of 4 years).
  4. Hi there, Is anyone on this forum who applied to medical school as a mature student who can offer advice about studying for the MCATs? I'm a postdoctoral fellow working in the area of research that I would like to do clinical work in (after medical school). I have a family that I support, so I cannot take 4 months off and move home with my parents to study for the MCATs! I also work full-time, but flexible hours. I'm currently studying the MCAT material one hour per day with the hopes that I can do the test next Summer (so in about 10-12 months). I find moving through the material is going
  5. I need some advice/encouragement and a good reality check. I want to be a physician. It has been on the periphery of my dreams since I was a kid but didn't solidify into a actual goal until a year or two ago. My problem is that I'm 35 and my spouse and I want to start a family so becoming a physician seems out of reach. I worry about the realities of this journey and the sacrifices required vis a vis personal life and raising children. I feel like if I was single and had no intent of having children for the next decade, it would be a no-brainer and I would dive in happily. Unfortunately,
  6. Hello fellows, I am interested in applying for medical school, however I'm wondering I would have a chance applying for medSchool @ Queen's university - even considering the "special admission" criteria for mature students with a graduate degree (PhD). I will summarize my background, so you can have a better idea of my profile. 30 years old; permanent resident; Finishing this month my PhD in Biomedical Engineering (studying applications of optical techniques into the characterization of atherosclerotic plaque development); B.Sc. in Medical Physics (from a very good international universi
