I'm finishing my BComm in marketing this academic year and am planning on taking all mcat/med school prereqs the following year. I am considering completing these courses at cegep level— reason being that my current university tends to split up the lab and theory component of a class to be taken in separate semesters plus the level of difficulty is likely greater at university level. I know a few med students who obtained bachelors in degrees outside of science, went back to cegep to complete their prereqs and ended up attending Montreal-based medical schools (i know McGill, University of Mont

Pre-req Athabasca (COVID-19) - MD 2024
MedSchoolHope101 posted a topic in General Premed Discussions
Hi everyone, I applied to uOttawa this year and thankfully got an interview. However, IF I get accepted , I will need to have completed a pre-req from Athabasca University before June 30th to send my transcript to OMSAS. I was planning on doing my midterm and final exams in the upcoming months, but since all universities in my province have closed due to COVID-19 I will not be able to be invigilated (aka take my exams). Depending on how Athabasca deals witht the situation, I am unsure if I will be able to finish my pre-req before the OMSAS deadline. I know that everything is extreme- 24 replies

Hey everyone! I recently graduated from a nursing program in Ontario and have decided that I want to write the MCAT this August. The problem is that my nursing program barely covered any of the prerequisite courses that are important for the MCAT - I have two sems of psych/soc, one sem of human biochemistry, and perhaps some physiology- and microbiology-related stuff covered by a couple of my other classes. But I have zero chem, organic chem and physics prereqs. I really can’t afford to take these courses and am hoping I can self study this info with Khan Academy and Kaplan. Just wonderin

Hey folks, Any ideas on if any Canadian schools reject or frown upon taking an online course during undergrad? It happens to be a biochemistry course, which I know is a prereq for Ottawa. WIll this make any difference? Also, do these things matter for US schools, at least ones that accept Canadians?

Hi all, I sent an email to AED Med and I didn't get a clear response. I was wondering whether someone can clarify this for me: "Candidates applying to the MDCM program who have completed the seven required prerequiste courses and who have also completed introductory level university courses in molecular biology, cell biology, mammalian physiology and organic chemistry will be evaluated on whichever of the two is the most favourable to the candidate.” I've done all the prereqs in CEGEP and have done poorly. I've also done the mentioned courses above in university. So this brings me

Hi all, I did my basic prerequisite courses in CEGEP, and with the way the CEGEP system works at my school, you can get a really good grade (34) with 75% if the average is low enough. I wonder how McGill calculates the GPA equivalent for that. Do they simply take your numerical grade and convert it using their alphabetic scale? Or do they look at the CRC instead? There would be a HUGE discrepancy between the two in my case... Thanks!

Hey guys, Just wrapping up my application and was entering in my pre-reqs and had a little confusion on what types of courses count for Humanities and Social Sciences. There are examples on the uOttawa website for sciences, but nothing for the H + SS... http://www.med.uottawa.ca/students/MD/Admissions/eng/description_prerequisite_science_courses.html it states no language courses. I take this to mean no spanish or german language courses where you learn the language or about it specifically. I would think (based on other medical school humanities and SS pre-reqs) that a course like Canadian
