I have my heart set on going to medical school and am currently writing the MCAT. However, I didn't have a very good track record at all for the 1st four years of undergrad due to mental health issues (not to make excuses or anything) but I did turn my life around, start taking care of myself and recently graduated after doing a 5th year, ending up with a 3.9 GPA (this is my GPA for the 5th year, not my cumulative GPA). I obviously don't want to do a full year of courses after graduating if it ends up being pointless, but I am willing to do a full year of courses as an unclassified student if if immensely boosts my chances of being competitive for med school. That being said, if I were to do a special year with the requirements of Western and maintain a high GPA, would they assess the 5th year & the special year as my 2 year gpa or am I only able to be assessed on 1 or the other? (Waiting for a reply for my email to the admissions committee.) I also I'm aware of the importance of ECs, it's just the situation surrounding my GPA calculations that I'm most worried about and wanted to discuss in this post.

How is MCAT considered?
PreMed#219099 posted a topic in University of Western Ontario Medical School
Are GPA and MCAT or GPA or MCAT only looked at as a cutoff or competitively? Is it different pre- and post- interview? Thank you! -

www.MedsHousing.com Listing ID #0017197 London,ON-Downtown Condo Living with a Touch of Luxury – 600 Talbot St. 600 Talbot Street, London, ON, Canada By far, this is one of the nicest condo buildings and the very best location (walk score 88) in downtown London. Sip your morning coffee on your balcony nestled among the tree tops and overlooking a quiet residential street. Enjoy cooking in your modern kitchen with its new stainless steel appliances, lots of counter (granite) and cupboard space and room for a small table. The large, open concept, living, dining, study/den area presents lots of possibilities and is bathed with natural light as one entire (almost) wall is glass windows and glass doors. The two bedrooms (new laminate flooring) are spacious with large windows and natural light. There’s nothing more convenient than having a second bathroom (master bedroom ensuite). Coming in 2nd for convenience is your storage room with a combination washer-dryer. Amenities include a beautiful (salt water) indoor pool with hot tub, sauna, and change rooms with showers. Condo gym with treadmills, elliptical, and weight machine. There’s a large and free outdoor parking lot for your visitors – a rarity in the heart of downtown London. Perfectly located for the medical community. It’s a 5-min. walk to the bus stop where either Bus #6 or Bus #13 (that’s right, if you miss one, the other will be by shortly) will get you to the following locations fast: Schulich School of Medicine/LHSC-University Hospital (12 min.); LHSC-Victoria Hospital (18 min.) St. Joseph’s Health Care (5 min.). If you prefer to cycle: Schulich School of Medicine/University Hospital (13 min.); LHSC-Victoria Hospital (19 min.); St. Joseph’s Health Care (7 min.) If you take a car (or Uber/taxi): Schulich School of Medicine/University Hospital (8 min.); LHSC-Victoria Hospital (11 min.); St. Joseph’s Health Care (4 min.). You don’t need a car. But if you have one, just leave it in the underground parking garage (one parking spot included). That’s because everything else is within easy walking distance in a really nice part of downtown London. Nearby grocery shopping includes (11-min. walk) Covent Garden Market where you can get fresh produce, baked goods, meats, fish, gourmet foods, and/or explore an assortment of vendors and restaurants. The less interesting ValuMart is a 13-min. walk. Richmond Row with its many restaurants, varied shops, bars and nightlife is a 7-min. walk. The beautiful Victoria Park with its summer music and arts festivals and winter skating rink is a 6-min. walk. Take in a concert, a hockey (Junior A: London Knights) game, or a pro (sort of) basketball game at Budweiser Gardens (10-min. walk). If you just want to enjoy nature, it’s a 3-min. walk to the paved pathway (Thames Valley Parkway – TVP) that winds its way (40 km. total) along the Thames River through multiple parks. The TVP also traverses Western University so you can cycle to school/work (12-minute) using this pathway. If you don't have a car but occasionally need one, a zipcar location is only a 4-minute walk away. Business details: Rental application, references, and credit check are required. Available Aug 15th. Or Sept. 1st. $1530/mo. plus utilities (heat/electricity). 12-month lease required. For more information contact Allan through MedsHousing.com web site. I look forward to hearing from you. Price local currency : $1,530/mo
