  1. I received my bachelor's degree back in April 2018 and after 2 failed med school application cycles in Canada I turned to US MD and DO schools. I realized I am missing many prerequisite courses (i.e. English + some lab courses) and was looking into post-bacc programs that could help me get the missing credits and apply to the US. Are there any post-bacc programs (with labs, so assuming I cannot do online) that you guys would recommend? I've heard of a lot of shady programs so I'm looking for some feedback. I found https://www.medschoolimg.com/premed-postbaccalaureate this progr
  2. Hey everyone, I'm really stressed so I apologize if this sounds very scatter brained. But I'm finishing up my 5th year at Western in Health Sciences and my GPA is just okay, around 3.6-3.7. MCAT is poor, 501 (125/124/126/126). I'm likely going to retake the MCAT this summer though as well as take Organic Chemistry since I currently do not have this prereq for Ottawa and pretty much every med school everywhere else. 1) Is my GPA scored differently to US MD and DO schools compared to Canadian MD schools? (Just wondering if UWO gets weighed differently or anything) 2) Are there any Ca
  3. I know I will not make it into Canadian dental schools due to the rough first year I had (due to major illness). I am a music major currently in my second year. My first year GPA was 2.4 (like I said, I was very sick), but first semester of this year, it was 3.3, which bumped my CGPA up to 2.74. I am hoping to bump it up even further by taking intersession courses this summer and working really hard for the rest of my undergrad. I am looking at US schools as a plan B. I was wondering if anyone has any info on Canadian friendly schools that may be options for me. I am hoping that my diverse
  4. Hi everyone, I'm a Canadian student thinking about applying to American dental schools. I know the cost is absolutely crazy, and I will be overloaded with loans but I still want to know the GPAs that some people get in with. The class statistics of some schools like NYU range mostly between 3.30 - 3.90 , but that's not really specific. If any Canadians could share their gpa and the schools they got accepted to (in the US) it would be very helpful
  5. Hi all,I'm a 3rd year Ontario non-SWOMEN undergrad student with an MCAT score of 131/127/131/128 (517 total). My GPA is ~3.98 and I have strong non-clinical ECs and clinical research experience. I'll be applying to Canadian med schools this upcoming summer, and if I don't get accepted I'll apply to Canadian and US med schools the following year.I'm concerned that my 127 CARS shuts a lot of doors in Canada - I think I'm really only competitive for U of T, Queens, and Ottawa - so I'm considering re-writing. However, I'm concerned that re-writing will harm my chances at US med schools, as I've he
  6. Hi, I'm a high school student applying for university. I am a US citizen and plan to work in the US as a dentist. My question is that if I earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) not a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) outside of the US and Canada will I have to attend university for an internationally trained dentist program afterwards, or can I just do the license exam NBDE and immediately work as a dentist in the US? Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Hey everyone, So it's my first time considering applying to American schools and I was hoping someone would be able to share some info about MSU. From what I can see, it looks as though they are relatively Canadian friendly, as anyone who is a Canadian citizen can apply with full consideration given to degrees obtained in Canada. However based on their admission statistics on MSAR, they only accepted 3 from 500 international applicants. Seeing as how MSU doesn't accept non-US citizens, non-US residents or non-Canadian citizens, does that mean in this case Canadians were considered in
  8. Hello, I'm wondering which US and Canadian med schools weigh the MCAT most highly in the admissions process? I recently took the MCAT and scored a 132/132/132/131, this is the first cycle I'll be applying to med school. I am a Canadian applicant (BC resident). Thanks!
  9. Hi everyone, I'm so glad I found this forum as I was struggling to locate information regarding student experiences with the U of T MD program on SDN. I've heard that it's extraordinarily competitive for Canadian applicants, not to mention for international applicants, and thus would appreciate any info on whether or not it's worth a try for someone coming from the states. I read somewhere that only 10 internationals are accepted every year, is this true? This likely means that the chances of acceptance in the circumstance I'm the perfect applicant (which I'm not) would still be slim; I wasn't
  10. Hi, I'm looking to practice interviews online (traditional/MMI) with anyone interested (via Skype). PM me to set something up, thanks!
  11. Does anybody know any Canadian friendly US med schools that do not require a 4-year degree?
  12. Hi everyone, first time poster and long time lurker. First off, a little about myself. Graduated a double major bio-medical science at UWO in '14. Just finished an 8 month term at Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston doing research in the laboratory of nanoparticles and biomaterials (currently one publication pending). Created a nonprofit website in '10 that has generated over $20k for homeless children over the globe. Shadowed two doctors while in the united states (Anesthesiologist and Orthopedic Surgeon). Volunteered two years at a local soup kitchen. Travelled to South America for a commu
  13. So here is a little bit of info about me. 3rd year Bsc Major in Bio, minor chem and diploma in forensic science Current gpa: 3.69/4 Possible gpa after I graduate if everything goes as planned: 3.76/4 (or a bit higher) ECS: 2 research jobs, volunteering at the hospital, coaching, studied abroad (paid by my university), part of a sorority, played varsity sport, etc. So I know I'm not competitive in Canada but I was wondering if it would be better for me to apply to the US or Ireland. I know the application fees for the US accumulate quickly. Basically, would I be competitive in th
  14. Just a quick question, my MCAT score was 514 (130/126/128/130) and I was wondering if there's any chance for McMaster or Queens in terms of CARS? I don't really get what their cutoff is and I don't really want to retake the test haha since I did well on the other sections. Also, is this a good score in case I want to apply to US schools? I'm not sure what the requirements are like there. Thanks!
  15. Hello all! If you are looking for an opportunity to get some in-hospital experience in the US, please check out the COPE's International Health Scholar's Program (https://www.l3connect.org/prospective-applicants/GHE). This is a great opportunity to learn more about the US health care system and get to see some of our facilities. This program is also in partnership with UCLA's Fielding School of Public Health. Depending on how long you are interested in staying, you may have the opportunity to get hands-on patient care experience in the hospital as well. We currently have opportunities for
  16. Hi there, I am a Medical Student writing on behalf of my sister who completed a B.Sc. in Biopharmaceutical Sciences at U of Ottawa and is applying to Pharmacy schools. It is very very competitive in Canada, and other than an interview at UofT, she is not having any luck getting in. She got accepted to MCPHS or Mass Pharm in Boston and it has a good reputation. The problem however is tuition. The cost of Tuition is 75-80 000 per year. The second problem is that they are asking her to do a 5 year program. They have a 6 year program for students straight from high school, and you can do
