Definition of death

One line that stood out the most for me: "In a closely-watched court battle last fall, the McKitty family said their Christian faith considers everyone alive as long as their heart beats. Their lawyer, Hugh Scher, argued the doctors discriminated against them by using a medical definition of death."

I think she should be removed form life support, without question. The religious viewpoint should not be taken into consideration here - if that logic were applied everywhere, it would be a mess. Neutrality has to be at the centre of these difficult situations, not emotion.

Care should have been lawfully withdrawn months ago when brain death was established. I do think this court case will serve a useful purpose in the end, inasmuch as we need to shut down the notion that there's something subjective about this.
