For that last point, I think if you don't go into medicine for the money, by the time you've gone through clerkship you care a lot more about it. I don't know.. I found it was the opposite. Staff tend to be more cynical and burnt out than students. I actually find medical students at least in my class to be reasonable, nice and friendly. It was a place I felt comfortable talking to any of my classmates and a place where I feel like I could easily say hi to anyone from my class if i ran into them by chance. Med school was less cutthroat because of the lack of grades and students tended to help each other more. I know this culture varies by school, but these were my observations.
