Hey Neurophiliac! You have Monday labelled as Regrets. Is Monday the only day regrets are sent out? Or can you get rejected on Wednesday or Thursday (or any day of the week)? Thanks!!

Yeah, so if it will be as it has been in the past, regrets should have passed, but.... we can't assume anything.  Or at least, I don't want to assume we're 100% safe!  Anything can happen until we're certain – and that's when we get an interview invitation.  But what I can guarantee right now is that we're safe for tonight at least...

Applied last year, same app NAQ was 40.

I know my marks are low but there were extenuating circumstances - I only have 1 more semester left (~23 credits to go) and not sure if I will be able to improve AQ enough for next cycle even if I get 95s in everything. Maybe med's not for me :( but also looking for help if anyone has any suggestions for AQ

TIME STAMP: 9:26PM PST
Interview Invite or Regrets: Regrets, No Interview
Early or Regular Deadline: Regular
GPA or AGPA (if applicable): 87.14
MCAT (CPBS / CARS / BBFL / PSBB): 127/125/129/128  [509]
Current Degree (UG/Bachelors/Masters/PhD): 4th Year UG
Geography (IP/OOP):  IP

Extracurricular Activities (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): Exec for a club(although only since spring), volunteered in hospital ER since 2nd year, volunteered in a lab since 2nd year (no pub), worked in some children's day camps since high school till 2nd year (some odd jobs here and there), part-time tutor since 3rd year, involved with UBC Orientations since 2nd year, volunteered for some UBC events, a few roles in undergraduate society, included some community volunteer positions in high school (not sure if it helped), coached a high school sports team... had a big research internship this past summer but couldn't include it (since after Jun 1 cutoff), but got a scholarship for it which I included. A couple class awards from high school, passport to education from BC government...

NAQ: 25.07
AQ: 25.88

TFR: 50.95

Obviously disappointed.... (TFR cutoff for BC applicants was 51.12.... UGH) I really thought my grades were right in the ballpark. 1st year average of 83.8 was a little low... but 2nd year average was 86.8% and 3rd year average was up to 91%. I guess that positive trajectory wasn't quite enough.... Here's to hoping an >90% 4th average and dropping that 1st year average will work out next cycle.

Good luck everyone!

Current Degree (UG/Bachelors/Masters/PhD): BSc. Computer Science 2018
Geography (IP/OOP):  IP

Extracurricular Activities (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): 4 years of research across high school and UG, involved extensively in 3 - 4 clubs/events as exec/organizer for 2 -3 years, lots of volunteering with kids, held part-time retail jobs in UG, TA'd a few CS classes, multiple software engineering & machine learning co-ops/internships and long-term commitment to music and performing arts

NAQ: 27.26

AQ: 23.68

TFR: 50.94

This is my 4th time applying to UBC Med and the closest I've ever been to an interview. I'm disappointed that I missed the cut-off by 0.18 points, but I scored a personal best on the NAQ and AQ since I finally had my lowest year of marks dropped. Last year my NAQ score was 15 and it took a lot of courage and guts to re-apply. I had a bit of a tough time trying to raise my NAQ due to my workload and moving around for co-op these past few years. Some people have asked whether I considered a program with a less intense workload, but I loved the difficult CS courses since they taught me the most about perseverance even if it took a slight hit on my GPA (and mental health). I'm going to consider giving this one final shot next year and continue working on that NAQ.

Good luck to everyone!

TIME STAMP: 8:26pm EST
Interview Invite or Regrets: Regrets, No Interview
Early or Regular Deadline: Early Deadline
GPA or AGPA (if applicable): 93.39
MCAT (CPBS / CARS / BBFL / PSBB): 515 (131 / 126 / 130 / 128)
Current Degree (UG/Bachelors/Masters/PhD): Finished BSc, Currently in 1 year Master's program
Geography (IP/OOP):  OOP

Extracurricular Activities (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): TA'd 4 UG courses for 2 years, Lifegurad/Swimming + lifesaving instructor for 4 years, 1 Pub in Medical Ethics Journal  (2nd Author), 4 poster/abstract presentation at International conferences (2 first author), President of 1 undergrad club (2 years), student council president in HS, 2 years rep soccer, 6 years hospital volunteer, 5 years volunteering at a native cultural centre, 2 years youth soccer head coach, planned a couple of research/medical conferences, I put in an observership that I did in Neurosurgery, Some Indian classical music. I even threw down some atypical activities by recommendation from UBC med students such as being a caregiver for an elderly family member + hiking/camping annually for about 5 years. Also had one of those high performance endeavours (represented Canada at International Science and Engineering Fair)

NAQ: 19.04
AQ: 36.08

TFR: 55.12

Kinda surprised my NAQ was so low :( would appreciate any feedback! I mean I really wasn't even close to the average OOP NAQ of 33. Hopefully OMSAS looks at it more favourably. I thought I had an extensive list of activities... would be curious to see what some of the invitees had!  I guess my activities on a whole were very traditional (research/med related?) I thought my research/employment would carry me... but I think they put a lot of emphasis on ECs/leadership. Good luck to everyone!

Is your AGPA listed as 93.39 on the OAS?

GPA or AGPA (if applicable): ~91-92%

Current Degree (UG/Bachelors/Masters/PhD): Bachelors
Geography (IP/OOP):  OOP

Extracurricular Activities (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): Mixture of academic and athletic awards. 5 strong previous jobs in last 4 years, all of them leadership positions, but also all had shorter-term fixed contracts. I transferred schools a third of the way through my degree, and I’ve moved around the country a lot for work, so I don’t have anything impressively longterm in one single place besides some of my personal hobbies/sport progression. I have one publication, 2nd author, international journal. Competed for 2 years full-time varsity sports. Some other things too but don’t know how to describe them without it being too revealing of identity because they’re pretty specific.

I volunteered a lot this past summer and started an interesting new full-time job this September but obviously that wasn't on my application. My first thought was it's okay, next year I'll increase some points, but seeing people post about significant 5-15 point drops or more despite increasing hours or doing new things makes me very skeptical...fingers crossed for some luck with a couple Ontario and the Alberta schools in the New Year?!

Extracurricular Activities (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): A little bit of everything, including standard hospital volunteering, other clinical volunteering, research but no publications, member of multiple on campus clubs, working part time at various jobs, and probably some other stuff that I'm forgetting right now.

Idk what to say at this point, I am obviously quite upset for being rejected. I'm also a little jealous because I know that some people with lower TFRs than me will get interviews and will inevitably get accepted this year due to being in province, but such is life. This is my first time applying, and this is my first rejection, it definitely stings, but I am hopeful that my home province of Ontario will show me some love. If not, then well I guess I'll be applying again for round 2. Good luck to all of you who receive interviews!

Early Deadline IP

At work at the moment . Can't post my stats. But please feel free to refer to my previous posts from my profile. I only added two more activities. An Enterpreneir Initiative and a Microbiology Job I got last year. I'm still working two jobs ATM.

Interview invites out already? I thought there was always a 'break' day in between rejections and early offers!

Geography (IP/OOP):  OOP

Extracurricular Activities (awards, achievements, volunteering, employment, research, etc.): Academic and research-based scholarships/fellowships; volunteering (med- and non-med related); club leadership; first-author posters and oral presentations at symposiums and several co-authored abstracts&refereed conference publications but no manuscript yet; employment as summer counselor, research assistant and summer research internship. Also discussed some extenuating circumstances and adversity I have personally faced - this unfortunately caused a gap in my ECs etc. I could partake in as well in the last 2 yrs as well so most of my activities were from 2 or more years ago except my Msc. research activities, 1 volunteering and 1 club leadership position I've had in the last 2yrs. This might have impacted my application, not sure
