Not sure if it is common across the board - but it can be helpful for verifiers to have a copy of exactly what you are asking for them to verify. E.g. your OMSAS ABS sketch description, and the hours you put. Hours can also be listed as x hours per week, rather than a lump sum, if that helps!

Does anyone know if med schools ask your verifier the approximate number of hours you have volunteered at that activity? I've done some volunteering for a very long time and I'm not sure they would be able to figure that out on the spot

Well, you should be providing your verifiers with the specific ABS information that you require them to verify. This allows them to clarify if 1) they agree with what you put down and 2) everything they need to verify if needed.

Depends on the school. Ottawa requires you to put total hours of the activity as that is the duration/time commitment they're mainly looking at.  The x hours per week/month can be indicate after for clarification breakdown and/or if you are applying to other schools as well.

Well, it's on their website and the admissions office can confirm it if you need clarification. You need to put total hours and then in brackets the approx. hours per week or months beside it.
